Alex had only experienced Fred's illusions once before. She'd showed him California and what it felt like. Back in the days when California had been all he'd been thinking about getting to. Back when his grandpa was still alive. Back before he did a lot of really stupid shit—well, more stupid than usual. Fred submerged him into her dream. Of California and a place he was only vaguely familiar with. He knew it was California because the state and its cities, especially in the south, had a certain feel to them. He was home.
He looked around and observed the sky and the buildings. "Yeah, this is fine," he said, knowing that Fred probably wasn't so great with her words when it came to this. He warned, "I kinda got a photographic memory though so . . . you know." He wouldn't forget it. Even though this was an illusion, it'd burn into his mind, never forgotten.
