Thread: Mystery, You Say?
WHO: Felicity, Galadari, and OPEN to Gilderoi (should his player get internet back in time to join in~)
WHEN: Sunday, December 11, Late-afternoon
WHERE: Abandoned lighthouse on the cliffs
The only thing Galad liked better than a good puzzle, was a good brawl. In absence of the latter, his curiosity had been piqued by the tales Sara and Thierry were spinning about a mysterious inhabitant that had disappeared. Apparently this person had stayed in the lighthouse for a time before moving on. Galad wanted to investigate, so he enlisted the help of his twin and his fiancée. Galad wanted to solve this mystery before their House Mentor and certainly before the House Mentor of Pegasus. Maybe it was his way of getting back at Thierry for rejecting their advances, or maybe Galad just disliked weres on such a basic level that he wasn't going to let them appear smarter than him. He didn't bother to analyze the motivation behind his actions. He'd rather invest the time into being the first to solve it.
Now, their pride on the line, the elves trekked out to the lighthouse. With shorter days, they were already losing light by the time they arrived. The lighthouse was situated as most lighthouses were, atop the highest cliffs in the area to guide sailors away from the rocks. This one had been replaced by the newer model closer to the wharf and it had fallen into disrepair. The only use this lighthouse saw anymore was for parties, by the look of things. Footprints lingered all around the structure from the Expert party last spring. The inside had been cleaned up, no leftover beer bottles or red cups. Galad had to hand it to whoever had planned that one. This was a perfect point of interest for a student party.
It didn't take long in their investigation to lead them to the blocked stairs that would circle up to the darkened lamp. The blockade was solid and there was no way the three of them could remove it without also breaking the steps it had been set on. It posed a challenge, and Galad wondered what kind of person had had the strength to barricade the way so solidly. He'd like to meet that person. Up there, past the barricade, Galad was certain would be the clues they sought. While Gil scouted around below, Galad and Fliss did what elves did best: performed feats of strength and agility while making it look effortlessly graceful.
The climb up the outside of the lighthouse was actually no easy task. The structure was clearly crumbling. Galad found purchase for the tips of his fingers and the edges of his feet as he ascended ahead of Felicity. The path up the wall was climbable, but it took them on the sea-exposed side of the lighthouse that had an imposing drop down into the churning frigid waters. Galad could make out in the failing light the white crests of the waves as they broke against the rocks at the base of the cliff.
The whole thing, much like the dangerous flight on the back of the juvenile Roc, made him feel more alive.
The outside wall of the lighthouse crumbled even as the two elves climbed, sending little bits of rock and brick into the black waters. Galad finally pulled himself over the uppermost platform of the old lighthouse, landing lightly on his feet. He immediately reached down to offer Felicity his hand. When they were both there, he gave her a bright smile, cold wind tossing his hair. "Easy. Now let's see what they're hiding up here."
