Dining With Ghosts: Jae and Tanek
Was she OK? Jae was trying to figure that out and she sort of stared at Tanek for a moment longer. Her stomach felt full but her mind was acting as if she were still hungry. How easy it would be to just tear her hand into his flesh. Her own hand, resting in her lap, almost started to morph, but Jae pressed her lips together tight and it stopped before it really ever began.
She breathed out slowly and chose her words carefully, "I'm . . . fine."
Jae relaxed at the words, convincing herself she was fine. That she didn't need to eat the boy in front of her, despite how tasty he was making himself to be. The edges of her mouth quirked upward.
She was fine.
"Thank you for asking," Jae said, continuing to discard of that hunger. Silencing its voice that told her she needed to eat and she had to eat now. She glanced at the ghost and then returned her eyes to Tanek, the strange boy with a penchant for changing font size, "I've already eaten."
