Hydra House: Davian & Peyton
Davian was cautiously optimistic that, after the events of the summer and the disastrous first attempt at getting married, he and Ambriel might be able to finally be happy together. He was happy, mostly. But Ambriel was not entirely himself and Davian was feeling that prickling of worry over and over the more he saw his husband do or say (or not do and not say) things he normally wouldn't (and would). Davian himself was more reserved than he would have been. Than he should have been, considering his wildest dreams had come true and he was married to his angel. The happiness was spoiled by the dark cloud that hung over Ambriel and persisted despite Davian's best efforts.
Thankfully, much to Davian's relief, the spirit of the monk who died saving his life was not among those that rose with the others to the Danse. Davian didn't know if he could stand seeing the old man again or seeing what it would do to Ambriel. They couldn't catch a break, it seemed, but whatever Powers That Be had decided to give them that. Halloween could be celebrated without that reminder clinging to them in incorporeal form.
Davian was the master at putting things off to worry about later. As a sloth demon, he was a professional procrastinator. That included preparing a costume for Halloween. He meant to decide on something, he really did. But the day was here and he still had nothing to wear. When someone stopped him and asked if he was dressed as a homeless person, Davian went with it.
He was leaving Ambriel's room when he found himself in the middle of an active haunted house. The hallways looked like tent walls and the lights were out or flickering. A creepy laugh echoed up the stairs and Davian caught a blurred sight of a poofy multi-colored clown wig passing from one room to another. He froze and stared straight ahead, his tail twitching. Demons weren't afraid of haunted houses, he reminded himself. Still, this was Hydra. There was no telling what else they had in store.
Slowly Davian backed away, following the wall towards another staircase to make his way to the exit.
