Dana and James and OPEN
James watched her bite the red fruit. It was making him hungry and his cheek twitched. Points of his fangs descended slightly, but not fully, and James rode the instinct to sink them into flesh with the same eagerness that Dana bit the strawberry.
For others, the way Dana took the fruit into her mouth and licked the juice would have an entirely different connotation. For James and most other vampires, feeding, not sex, was always on their mind.
A breathy laugh escaped his parted lips. "I hide it well..." The words played through his mind. Apparently he did not hide it well, because even Dana knew he had no interest in her sexually. Was he being read that easily? James didn't think very highly of Dana's intelligence, so knowing that she had somehow seen through him, it was galling.
The laugh grew and filled. He laid his head on her shoulder and laughed into her neck with a deadly embrace most vampires who had fed from people would recognize. It was tempting to bite, even though she wasn't human and probably tasted like tree sap. Her throat was right there, exposed to him. The euphoria of the party made him feel like he could get away with it, too. But James kept coming back to the fact that she knew. She knew him. She knew he didn't want her. He didn't want Galad either. He wanted someone with a crooked smile, dark eyes, and skin that peeled like a snake every night.
Abruptly, James pulled away, wavering on his feet. "Excuse me. I need to go. I've just remembered something." James gave one more unstable laugh, one a lunatic might make in a batman movie, and edged his way towards the door.
