Thread: Phantoms & Femmes WHO: Valentin Graff and Felicity Bainbridge WHERE: The auditorium WHEN: Tuesday afternoon
"Let your mind start a journey to a strange new world, leave all thoughts of the life you knew before..."
Valentin was standing on the stage, his eyes closed. One hand was on behind his back, while the other was on his chest. He was singing one of the Phantom's signature songs and when it came to technique, he was actually doing very well. He knew how to modulate his voice and he was perfectly on key. He knew that the song started small and built up to a huge climax and he was actually able to deliver on that.
"Let your soul take you where you long to beeeeee!"
His gestures started to support the song, becoming more theatrical. But there was a problem. While vocally, Valentin had the chops, his stage presence left a lot to be desired. The part of the phantom required a larger-than-life presence, someone who owned the stage. Someone who had no problem being, at least partly, a villain. Andrei would have been a great Phantom, even if Valentin had vocally beat. Valentin was a male ingenue. Valentin was well suited for Marius, Raoul or Tony, not the Phantom. Still, he had landed the part.
"Only then can you belong to me..."
Quietly and soulfully, Valentin finished the song. He opened his eyes and looked at Felicity. His voice sounded a lot more boyish when he asked: "What did you think?"
