“Yeah, I guess sort of like that, only it’s not so much things as it is electricity.” He didn’t have the slightest idea who Haylie was, but he supposed that he would learn eventually. The network the school had was something new for him and Josh figured they made it easier to connect with others that you might not see on a regular basis. He wasn’t too concerned with whether or not he would become acquainted with Haylie, but he smiled and nodded nonetheless at Dana’s words.
He appreciated the fact that Dana was gladly willing to show off what she meant, because simply being told that she was “a part of nature” did not fully clarify everything for Josh. His expression was neutral as she stretched out her arm, but once it started to change, there was obvious wonder on his face. When she brought her arm closer to him, Josh couldn’t help but reach out and run his fingers against the bark that covered where her skin had once been. He was momentarily dumbstruck at the thought that this girl could not only become a tree, but that she could hold a conversation with them as well. “You can speak to them? Any tree at all?” The revelation caused him to laugh in shock. “That’s absolutely amazing.”
