Thread: Let's Talk About Books
WHO: Olivia and John
WHEN: Sunday, August 21
WHERE: The library
John was at the library that afternoon to return some books he had finished and to check out the next round of his study materials. The young medicine man was not typically very studious unless it came to his craft, which he practiced and honed in any free time he had available to him. Otherwise, for other subjects, John was not a bright student. He knew his limitations in academic pursuits and accepted them. Growing up, John had not excelled in any subject. He just wasn't a very good student and instead of trying to get better, he gave up. All throughout his childhood, he was a disappointment not only to himself, but to his mother. John's older brother Leon was the only bright spot in the family, right up until he was turned into a vampire in this very castle. Then once again attention came down to John and his failure to be at all skilled in the magical arts.
John's power was something the Cherokee tribe had not seen in ages. The oldest among them spoke of healers who could cure with a touch, but most people, especially the younger generation, believed they were just tales. So when the Spirit Guide of the Crow came to him and John's abilities manifested, suddenly he was looked at differently. Suddenly, he thought, he had worth. John clung to that and worked hard to be good at his craft, often leaving other class work unfinished so that he could practice his magic some more. Finally, John had thought, he could make his mother and his tribe proud.
"Pull Out A Sticker." John read the spine of an old book on the shelf in the magical herbs section and pulled it from the shelf. John knew the plant. It was otherwise known as Greenbriar and was used in traditional medicine as a blood purifier, among other things. An entire volume about it, though? John was curious to know more and added the book to the stack in his arms that was getting a little too ambitiously tall for a teenager. He then turned to wander down the next aisle and flipped open the cover as he walked to start reading.
