Sorin had never seen someone enjoy ice cream like Tanek was enjoying his. He watched him with amazement as he savored every bite, his heart going out to the other boy because Sorin knew the kind of place he had come from, and knew that the past year after leaving Anton had not been very kind to Tanek, either. Tanek had a difficult life even before coming to Anton. Ice cream was a simple pleasure, but it was a pleasure Tanek didn't take for granted.
Sorin felt the urge to kiss Tanek, and almost would have as they left the ice cream shop, but Tanek reached into his pocket for something and he stopped. "What--" Sorin blinked when he recognized the pendent and a smile spread over his face. It was the one he'd admired in the store. "You got this for me? That's funny, I didn't see you buy it." He reached for it and let the chain loop around his fingers. Granted, Sorin had been distracted by the cashier's come hither eyes to notice everything Tanek had purchased. It didn't immediately occur to Sorin that Tanek might have stolen it.
