Who: Nolan and Kane What: Nolan’s arrival When: Monday Warning: TBD Status: Closed/Incomplete
It had taken a few days to get from Vegas to Maine. The moms had seriously underestimated how far away Maine was from Nevada. That or they didn’t care. Nolan wasn’t sure how they came up with the tuition money but that was the end of their extravagant spending. He left Vegas on a plane, but that only got him out of the state. It was buses from there to Philadelphia then a train from there. It was a good thing timing hadn’t been an issue because it took a damn week to finally get to Camden, Maine.
Nolan was far too late for classes until next term, but he’d be spending the summer at St. Margaret’s with Kane. That suited him just fine. It wasn’t so much that he was happy to be away from the moms. It was getting to be with Kane again. He hadn’t even laid eyes on his best friend yet and the relief was flooding him.
He’d texted Kane when the train was fifteen minutes out of Camden. Fifteen long minutes. When the train stopped Nolan couldn’t get off it fast enough. Some old lady had decided to tell him her life story the entire way from Boston to here. After hearing about how her daughter married a nice Orthodontist from Milwaukee Nolan tuned her out with an earbud in the ear she couldn’t see.
He gathered his bags from the platform then scowled as he looked around. This was definitely not Vegas. Nor New York. It was too….natural. Too green. And fucking cold. If it felt like this now Winter was going to suck. But it was worth it to be with Kane again. Nolan kept reminding himself of that as he looked around for the friend he hadn’t seen in months.
