Graduation always came and went quickly. For some students the pomp and circumstance of the affair took too long, but when it was over, the last four (or five) years felt like a blur. It was over. It was time to say good-bye to everything and everyone. The Experts were now to set out into the world. What fortunes they would seek could be tangible or something more metaphorical. Some of the experts were quick to depart, not even waiting till the last few chairs from the soccer field were put away before packing up their lives from their dorms and leaving St. Margaret's as a vanishing point behind them as they drove on the road to the rest of their lives. A few teachers cried though most of the crying came from proud parents, sires, or guardians who could make it. After the ceremony ended, they took pictures together, and it was the last chance for any students to grab Experts that might not have already left. Preserved in film were smiling faces of friends and families and now former students wearing caps and robes with tassels turned from one side to the other. Some of the experts would stay behind beyond this time. They had some loose ends to tie, and the school would allow them. By the end of the summer they would be gone, and anything they left behind would be as gifts to others in the form of memories or objects. Now the soccer field was cleared of the chairs and the podium, and everything else. Only a week remained for the other students of St. Margaret's and soon they would head off to find adventure in the summer. That is if they managed to pass their classes to avoid summer school. A banner still hung on the front of the castle's main entrance that read, "Congratulations, Class of 2016!" |
