Kane arrived quickly enough that Sorin didn't have much time to sulk. He had known this was coming, that Bayani would eventually leave him for her, but now that it was here, he wished he had prepared himself more. Maybe he should have turned Bayani down a few times. Maybe he should have distanced himself more emotionally. But who was he kidding? He couldn't deny his own heart any more than he could try and stand in the way of someone else's. Much like Ellie, Bayani did not see Sorin the same way he saw him. He was just a placeholder, the practice until the real emotion could be shown to the one that counted.
He knew it was coming and it still had hurt him.
Sorin wiped his wet eyes on the sleeve of his loose shirt and moved to the door to crack it open. The sight of Kane, coming to his aid like this in his moment of need, only made Sorin feel more strongly for the demon. It did not take the sting away from Bayani breaking up with him, however. That was the trouble with polyamorous people, Sorin was learning. The other people in the relationship might not see it as a real relationship and he had to learn how to guard himself better against this kind of heartbreak. Kane would have some advice, Sorin thought. Kane had been living this kind of thing for longer than Sorin had, and he had to know a few tricks.
Sorin didn't wait until Kane was inside his room to wrap his arms around the winged demon and bury his face into the crook of his neck. Kane always had such a good smell to him.
