Paxton regarded his little brother curiously, amazed at the ease with which he fell asleep. Davian slept like a baby, surrendering himself to it completely. Entirely without care. Paxton felt a pang of envy for it: he never fell asleep that easily and he suspected he didn't look that innocent when he did.
He brushed a few errant locks of hair out of Davian's face and his mouth displayed a rarely seen thing: an earnest smile. "I'm glad I got to know you better," he whispered, before settling against his brother. Paxton wouldn't sleep, but he'd use this moment of respite to gather his thoughts and occasionally glance at his brother, fast asleep.
