"You will?" Davian asked even though he knew Paxton wasn't just joking around. He meant it. It was an automatic question on Davian's end, a reflex. People in his experience didn't offer to keep him safe without either wanting to trick him or wanting something in return. Paxton was different. Paxton knew Davian had nothing to offer in exchange except more of his annoying presence. Davian's affection for his brother had been hesitant at first, unsure of his motives, but as time went on and they got to know each other at St. Margaret's, Davian's doubts fell away.
Overcome by that foreign feeling of gratitude, Davian pushed away from his seat to embrace his brother. He hugged Paxton tightly, prepared to hold fast through the other demon's resistance. "Thanks, Pax. That means a lot to me. To us." He included Ambriel, getting better at saying "us" instead of "me". Pulling back to smirk at Paxton, Davian added. "And if anyone asks, I'm still the hotter brother."
