Rehearsals Begin (Bring your own thread)
Who: Cast and Crew for the play
Where: Academy Theater
When: Friday after classes
Ratings: TBD

It was the first week of rehearsals, so Thérèse wasn't expecting a lot yet. The stage crew was doing a good job with the beginning of the set designs. Kana and Emily were in the dressing room taking measurements for everyone. She was glad that Kana would actually have help this time with that part. She always felt bad that the girl never seemed to have any help aside from her mother.

The drama teacher was on the stage helping guide the actors that were currently on stage. Sure there were many half finished props scattered about, but she was having a pleasant time thus far. It was an interesting twist on some of the characters with the gender swapping, and she was looking forward to seeing what each of the students managed to bring to the table.

Off stage the students were running lines for their scenes or simply socializing with each other with only a few moments of Thérèse turning to tell them to quiet down a bit. She was nice about the whole thing so long as it didn't seem to distract the students who were actually on stage at any point in time.

Andrei had brought a tennis ball. They bounced right. Line readings were never particularly interesting. They took too long and if you had a smaller role, you spent a lot of time not doing much of anything. So Andrei was balancing on his chair, throwing the ball at the wall. It gave a satisfying 'thunk'.

Andrei liked drama. He was good at it. He had the right mixture of hammishness and actual emotion to sell most roles. He would never be a great actor - didn't have the patience for it - but for St. Margaret's, he sufficed.

'Thunk'.

Besides, this would be his last play. He had to make the most out of it.

"Hey, Supporting Character." Davian's smug smirk went from ear to ear as he strutted up to Andrei. He walked right up to him and stood in front of the ball, letting it bounce off of him instead of going back to its owner. "You want to run lines?"

As the main character of the play, Davian had a lot to memorize and after a talk with Ms. Ed, he was more inclined and less pressured to get them learned. Jae was helping, too. But it still made these rehearsals full of chaos with finding where he was supposed to be on stage, which side to come in, not calling Haylie by her real name in their scenes, and especially not snickering when other people messed up. Davian was quite theatrical and he enjoyed playing the unconventional parts - not the roles themselves, but the unconventional casting for the conventional roles. As Beatrice, he wore a glittery pink tiara, just to remind everyone that he was the lead character, the queen.

Andrei gave Davian a cold stare, raising an eyebrow at the demon. While Andrei hadn't gotten the role he wanted, he hadn't wanted Davian's role either. Still, the demon didn't have to rub it in.

Quite at his leisure, Andrei picked up the ball. And then, with a movement that was a quick as a whip, the ball thwacked roughly against the wall right besides Davian's ear. Amazingly, it didn't leave a dent. "What's with the crown? You a genuine fairy now?"

The way Davian flinched and ducked away from the ball, one might think he had things thrown at him all the time. He pulled away from the wall with a quick "fuck" hissed under his breath and hunched his shoulders, sidestepping so fast it almost made the tiara fall off. Thankfully, Davian's horn stumps were the perfect tiara holders.

"It's a tiara, dumbfuck." Davian snickered, not quite getting close enough to Andrei this time. "And it means I'm the star." He sniffed. "Ms. Ed says I can wear it on stage." She didn't, but he was going to ask - or wear it anyway until she told him to take it off at least. "How jealous are you right now?"

"It's gay," Andrei proclaimed, not bothered by the fact that he did sexual things with other boys. Andrei smirked. "But yeah, it makes you look dainty."

Andrei rose from his chair like a vampire rose from the grave - fluid and slick, going from sitting to vertical without seemingly changing position. He tossed the ball up and down as he stalked into Davian's aura. "So jealous. You get to kiss Haylie." Andrei leaned into Davian. "What does your winged boyfriend think of that? Now he a real fairy."

"I'm not fucking dainty!" Davian defended, puffing up his chest some more, but only until Andrei got out of his chair. And then it was back to being cautious. Davian didn't outright hunch his shoulders and shrivel away, but he did lean back some when Andrei came in closer.

The demon hadn't actually read the play all the way through, so the news that he had to kiss Haylie was surprising. But before he could comment on that, Andrei made a mistake. He went after Ambriel.

Quick like a tennis player - those lessons had to pay off sometime - Davian smacked Andrei across his smirking face with the fleshy part of his hand, claws leaving a mark. "He's not a fucking fairy, you shithead."

Andrei snarled when he felt Davian's hand connect, the skin on his cheek reddening. With a glower, he brought his hand to his cheek, a feeling of shame and anger welling up inside of him. This little punk...

Violence begot violence. Especially when it came to Andrei.

Just as quick, Andrei retorted. The vampire was a brute, always going for the jugular. His hand wrapped around Davian's throat, growling: "What did you just say to me?"

Davian could be an idiot. Jae knew this but she also knew that Davian had a problem with being an idiot and saying things that got him in trouble, but it was pretty rare for Davian to actually do something. She was reading through the play very intently when she heard raised voices. She looked up to see Andrei and Davian talking. Sort of. Arguing. Everything about their body language spoke that this wasn't an argument. Davian was on the defense and Andrei, as always, had the more dominant personality.

And then Davian slapped Andrei. The book in her hands fell to the floor and she immediately rose. She knew that Andrei likely forgot about her warning. That he probably didn't think she could do much. That he thought he could get away with grasping Davian by his throat and snarling at him. He was very, very wrong.

Jae moved without even thinking about it. She did, after all, warn Andrei. She told him very firmly that if he touched Davian, if he so much as laid a finger on him, there would be consequences. A very specific consequence. She cut through the people watching the argument transpire, eyes narrowed and jaw set tight. Davian was her friend. She promised she would protect him as much as she could and that didn't just involve demon lords. That also meant vampire bullies.

She didn't say a word at first. Instead, her hand went to grab Andrei's wrist and then her thumb shoved hard into the inside of it, forcing his hold on Davian to loosen. "I warned you," she said looking directly into his eyes and then with a quick motion of her hand, she broke his wrist with a sickening crack.

Thérèse had been having a pleasant time until she began hearing the commotion behind her. She was working with Fred who was incredibly new to the acting scene, so her attention had been completely on the vampire girl. When the noise got to be louder than she would have liked, she turned only just in time to see the events play out from where Andrei had Davian by the throat and Jae rushing towards them.

She began rushing over there as well, pleased that at least Jae was almost there. At least she was pleased until she saw the girl do something so incredibly uncharacteristic of what Thérèse had come to expect of the girl. The teacher scowled in shock. "Enough!" she said using magic to cause her voice to increase in volume so much that you would think God had just spoken.

As she was usually the kind teacher none of the students around had any clue what to do other than get out of the fairy's way. She glared at all three students, took Andrei's hand from Jae and gave a short incantation that would help with the pain until he got to the nurse. "You will take 'im to ze nurse's office," she instructed one of the other students. "And you two will go to my office now," she informed Jae and Davian both. "Everyone else may leave."

Davian should've remembered how fast vampires were. No sooner had he gotten the satisfaction of slapping Andrei, seeing the surprise and anger when Andrei touched his cheek, Davian was caught in the vampire's choking grip.

"Fuck," Davian managed to get out, fear widening his eyes. He knew the worst was coming, but he wasn't going to take back what he'd said in Ambriel's defense. As it turned out, Davian didn't need to worry about that, because in a matter of moments, Jae was there. Sometimes Davian easily forgot what Jae was, how she'd looked when he saw her in her true form snarling at the Otherworlders, and before that, in the Warlock's tunnels, rescuing him from the rock creatures.

Her hand was on Andrei's wrist and Davian felt the vampire's iron fingers fall back. The demon couldn't even squirm away before Jae spoke to Andrei and then the sound of bone breaking in her bare hand happened right in front of him. Davian's eyes widened this time in shock, darting a look between them, afraid now for Jae and Andrei's reaction. He was no stranger to violence, having grown up on the bottom end of a demon commune, and so Davian reached for Jae to pull her away and run when a sound arrested all movement in the room.

"Fuck..." he said again, seeing Therese approach. Davian swallowed hard. He'd never seen her like this before and it was terrifying. He adjusted the pink tiara that had fallen askew.

Andrei let out a yelp when, all of sudden, a vicelike grip wrapped around his wrist and snapped. A searing pain shot through his arm, his grip on Davian relaxing.

But, like Jae, Andrei was a predator. They shared a ruthlessness, a single-mindedness, a deep-seated instinct that allowed to hunt and fight. It allowed them to ignore pain. In other circumstances, they would probably find that they had a lot in common.

Right now, however, Andrei's first urge was to ram his elbow into Jae's face. That was before Ms. Edouard's amplified voice boomed down on them. They were caught red-handed. Andrei's posture relaxed into something as close to meekness as he possibly could, one hand nursing the injured wrist. The bones were already mending.

Without a word, he followed the other student to the nurse's office, but he shot Jae a withering look before he went.

Jae felt Davian tugging at her to pull her away. She knew that breaking Andrei's wrist wouldn't come without retaliation but she also knew that she couldn't go back on her word. Therese certainly stepped in on time to stop this from turning into an allout brawl. Her voice drew the attention of everyone in the room, including the three that were the source of the fairy's anger. Even the walls seemed to react to the sound of it and Jae released the broken wrist and watched as Mrs. Gurule arrived.

The woman gave commands that students were ready to obey. The normally soft-spoken and sweet teacher showed a new side to her. It surprised Jae for only a moment, though when she was told to go to the office, it didn't really surprise her. Jae understood what her threat would spell for her and likely for Davian who had struck first.

Andrei's departure included a glance in her direction, but Jae returned his glare with one that showed she wasn't impressed by it. Vampires were terrifying in their own way, and Andrei's size and the wildness to his behavior certainly helped that sort of reputation remain in tact. But vampires weren't sitting at the top of the food chain, and were this fight to take place somwhere else, Andrei would find himself evenly matched in the petite Korean girl.

"How is your throat?" she asked, reaching up to place a hand on his shoulder, "We should go to Mrs. Gurule's office like she said."

The teacher made sure that the students all left before heading to her office to meet with Jae and Davian. Her mood had taken an extreme turn from when rehearsal had begun to this moment. Fairies tend to have trouble holding more than one emotion at a time, and while she had a great deal of practice keeping her emotions in check so that she could be a good teacher, Thérèse wasn't an exception to this flaw.

She was scowling as she walked into her office and looked at the students before her. "I will deal with Andrei in a little while," she informed them so that she didn't have to hear anything about how she was being unfair. Her voice was much different than it usually was. There was no gentleness in her tone; in fact, it was harder and deeper than most anyone had ever heard with the exception perhaps of Dallas. "Now explain yourself." The command was focused on Jae more than Davian. The teacher knew Davian had a tendency to run off at the mouth, and that got under many people's skin. Andrei was also known for not having the greatest control over his temper. Jae, however, was quite well known for being level headed.

The teacher was already having a good time working on the play, and she knew after they really got into it the students would too. They had complained a bit at the start, but she really thought it was important that the students work on something done by a person considered to be the best playwright in history. It was important to see that even today in some of the most recent movies there are still whispers of Shakespeare within them.

"Good work," she told the students currently on the stage, "Next scene." She dismissed the students on stage with a smile and waved her hand to a couple more students to come up on stage.
