Ashton sounded so assured until it came to what would happen after his dragonslayer. Jae wasn't sure if she could relate entirely to what it was like to lose what Ashton had lost. She hadn't completely lost Eunji. Eunji was there, sort of, but Jae had taken revenge. That revenge had left her damaged more than she ever realized. It exposed so many of her flaws that she spent the last fifty years trying to overcome with no success. She remained silent as Ashton gave pause to consider what came after the reclamation of his possessions.
A question sat at the tip of her tongue. It would be insensitive to ask what he would do whenever Barclay died. The frail human form could only live so long and compared to a majority of the supernatural races out there, it was extremely short. Jae watched him as he looked at Barclay, knowing that asking her question would only frustrate him as Barclay's fate still hung in the balance.
"You have no dreams?" she asked, "Nothing else you want to do? To see? To be? You can be a dragon and be other things too." He was already a number of things but she wondered what a dragon longed for. Or if merely existing was enough for them.
