Ellie was racking up a list of things she’d never dare do before. She skipped classes. Promised she wouldn’t do any further educational research until after Christmas. And she blew off classes she didn’t have finals in. In all of these sins was one person: Haylie. Ellie could just imagine Sorin giving her that mild rebuking tone of voice, but even that wasn’t enough to make her hesitate. She like Haylie, bad influence or no, and it was nice to make another friend. After all this mess with Rider she could use one.
Today’s adventure to get hot chocolate in town wasn’t naughty or against the rules. Ellie felt better about that, less jumpy for expecting a scowling and disappointed teacher coming up behind her to ask her why she wasn’t where she was supposed to be. She put Rider and her hurt feelings to the back of her head, determined to not let them dampen her day and pulled up a smile on her face as she waited in the courtyard for Haylie.
It was cold, but Ellie didn’t feel it much thanks to her affinity with fire, but she was still dressed for the weather with her long wool skirt, sweater, coat, hat and scarf. She kept forgetting about gloves, though, and that never failed to get her a few odd looks. She wasn’t immune to the damages of the cold, and more than once she’d had to deal with red, chafed fingers for her careless memory. After getting a look from another student that passed by Ellie grimaced and shoved her hands into her coat pockets. “…bawheid girl…”
