Winter Musical 2015
Who: Anyone who wants to be
When: Saturday (forward dated)
Where: Academy Theater
Act 1
The play began with a spectacular dancing number accompanied by brilliant music provided by Alicia, Daniela, Jae, Winifred and a few other students. Narrator (Davian) begins speaking in a sing-song way to the rhythm of the music while he does his own dance and explains the setting.
It then featured Eric (Sorin) and his family as they explored a store coming up with ideas for gifts to give for their Solstice celebration. Michael (Haylie) and Becky (Katherine) are fighting over a toy that they both want, a giant stuffed bear (Rider), and neither one of them wants to let him go. Finally Becky looses her grip and is sent falling down a flight of stairs. She is rushed to the hospital and is found to have a broken leg.
Meanwhile after the ambulance has left Darren (Andre) and his wife Claudette (Bushara) enter the store in the midst of an argument. (Which Bushara seemed to pull off utter hatred towards Andrei amazingly well). The argument is about how Darren is planning on working Christmas day, and he had decided to simply buy a great deal of presents for the children instead of actually spending time with them. In the end he ignores her and begins placing things in the shopping cart including the giant bear.
After Darren and his wife leave, Michael returns with his mother to find the bear is gone.
Act 2
Narrator returns with a couple of backup dancers and does a quick synopsis of the events thus far while the scene changes. He then sets up the next act before exiting the stage.
Michael has found a place to sit while he sulks. Soon a Santa Claus (Dallas) comes along and has a conversation with the boy. After a bit of talking Michael understands he should just try apologizing to his sister. It won't help the entire situation, but it would at least be a start.
Darren meanwhile is with his family giving out all of the gifts. His son is fine with all of the expensive gifts, but his daughter isn't. She even goes so far as to throw the bear out of her window demanding that she stay and take her where she wants.
The bear does a solo song and the act ends
Act 3
The narrator comes to the stage and begins to go over everything that happens again in a sing song way this time while the backup dancers dance with the bear as though sending the bear through a variety of problems such as rain, being kicked around, and finally being put into the trash.
Becky is wheeling along in a wheelchair at the park and sees the bear sitting next to the trash can. She remembers her brother and her fight over a bear like this one not realizing it is the same bear, so she takes it and asks her mother and father to help her clean it.
Cynthia finally goes out trying to find the bear her father gave her, tears in her eyes, and is unable to find it. She looks all over the park, and is about to give up when she sees a boy opening a present that turned out to be her bear. She ran over to Michael, who was still in shock at the gift, and demanded the bear back. At first Becky and Cynthia argued, but Eric and Marcie break the argument up quickly. Michael asked what the deal was, and Cynthia explained that her father gave her the gift just before leaving for a long time. Michael decided to hand the bear over to the other girl, and gives his sister a hug.
The play ends with the bear singing again while the children play together.
The narrator then comes back out to wrap everything up and wish the audience a happy holiday.
[ooc: Sorry for it seeming a bit basic, but it works much better in my head than it does in synopses. All tags will take place after the performance. Any questions just ask.]
