Thread: Friends in Need
WHO: Jae Song & Davian Rivera
WHEN: Nov. 30, after classes
WHERE: Dustin's Tomes & Volumes
It'd been a week since she'd agreed to meet Sorin. He told her he was going to try to help her. To pull Eunji out of that painting. To have Jae face her friend who spent the last fifty years trapped there. It was that reason in particular that Jae texted Sorin and said she had to work. She didn't really. Not yet. She called Dustin as soon as she could, pleading for a shift, and he was happy to provide her with one. Sorin understood and Jae felt bad for lying but there were some things she felt prepared for and some things she didn't. She'd been so desperate to get Eunji out that now seeing the real possibility of it happening scared the life out of her. She panicked. She was still panicking in a way. Because Sorin was waiting for her to be ready and Jae didn't think that she ever could be. For a girl who never procrastinated an assignment and made a point to remember things, this avoidance said a lot about how she felt about seeing Eunji again. Her eyes closed as she placed a book on a shelf. The classes let out for the day and Jae attended her clubs and meetings before heading into Camden to work. It was just Dustin and her at the bookstore, and not many people wandered into the store to purchase books. Most of those that did come in were just there for Dustin. A reason that Jae understood on some level. And it was why she was grateful that when she heard Davian's voice in the shop, Dustin was out to grab some food for his break and currently not in the store. "I'm back here," she called to him and then walked around a shelf to spy her demon friend, "He's getting some food and the store is empty except for me. You can stop doing that." There was always patience in her voice when she spoke to Davian. Not necessarily tried patience, though right now there was a hint of that. While Davian was probably the person she'd come the closest to since coming to the school, sometimes he could wear on her nerves. But she knew that beyond the surface, Davian was amazing. Kind and loving, and one of the best people she ever knew. Despite being over three hundred years old, Jae didn't really know all that many people, but even if she did, Davian was someone that people often underestimated and looked down on. It's what made her so protective of him. "Are you on break?" she then asked, knowing he also worked in town but at Duke's Diner where he washed dishes and emptied out their orange juice supplies on a regular basis. |
