Thread: Two Indians And A Pilgrim (but not a Puritan)
WHO: Leon & John (with coma!Barclay)
WHEN: Thanksgiving Day [backdated]
WHERE: Infirmary, Barclay's bedside
Leon had been raised among the people. He and his father traveled all around Haiti as well as most of Louisiana doing the work of the Supreme Houngan, mending spiritual wounds as they went. Before he was a teenager, already haunted by the spirits of the men he'd killed and seeking solace, Leon returned to his mother's tribe on the Cherokee reservation. When he was fourteen, he was sent to St. Margaret's. To say the least, Leon's upbringing was multi-cultural. The one thing he did not grow up around until he came to the school was his own generation.
As a child in Haiti surviving off the good will of the people they served from village to town to city, Leon was grateful for the simplest things from running water to fresh fruit and vegetables. The reservation had been a considerable step up, amenities wise, and the Academy was both modern and ancient.
After the events of the past year, with the one year anniversary of him being turned into a vampire and losing his power - along with the spirits who wanted to rend his soul in half - fast approaching, Leon owed the Academy a debt of gratitude. It was out of the kindness of Ms. Menides's heart that he'd been allowed to stay another year with a roof over his head and blood provided for his belly and a bed to sleep in, even if it wasn't used. It was a gesture that had gone a long way with Leon. After his father had disowned him and the funds had stopped coming in, Ms. Menides had let him stay and have a chance at mastering this new self he found himself in possession of. Leon was indebted to the Headmistress, but more importantly, he was eternally grateful.
Today was a day to think on gratitude like that. Today was also a day to think about family. While his mother and father both wanted nothing to do with a vampire son, Leon had been surprised to find out he had a half-brother. Today, he and John were going to experiment with that dynamic. Family.
But first: friends. Leon was checking on Barclay, his brother in all but blood.
They were all together in the infirmary, one brother on each side of Barclay's bed, sharing the silence.
