Micah J. Kaden ([info]bearsoul) wrote in [info]st_margarets,
Just Away from the Bonfire: Ellie & Rider & Kaden
Bears were known to have a sense of smell that was extremely strong. Some said they could smell 7 times better than a bloodhound. This was a blessing and a curse for Kaden. He'd used it to track down their students a year ago who'd been kidnapped by a crazed warlock. He'd used it to locate contraband during monthly room inspections. In human form, his sense of smell wasn't quite as strong, but it was still greater than an average man's. Which meant, as he was making a pass close by the bonfire - to his credit, not approaching directly through, not wanting to be a complete buzzkill for the bonfire - he could smell alcohol in a cup a student was holding or even smell the student on the cup they'd set down to drink.

Such was the case of Rider and Ellie. Their cups may be out of their hands, but the scent of their hands were still on their cups, and so was the alcohol. Kaden was particularly protective of the young witches who'd come back from Romania, scarred and underfed, frightened and unsure. He was also fond of Rider, particularly because he was being such a kind classmate and Ladonite to befriend one of the witches. But that only gave them both a slight forbearance with the grumpy bear who would rather be having second dinner and settling in for the winter months.

"Thought you two could get away with it?" He growled as he stepped out of the shadows on the war path. Their cups were in his hands, one in each, and he looked at them accusingly, interrupting what might have been a truly enjoyable dance to the light of the bonfire. "Care to explain these?"
