Thread: 'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
WHO: Mickey & Leon
WHEN: Sometime around the end of summer, cusp of autumn
WHERE: From Camden to Bangor International Airport
By the time they got out of Belfast, the minutes were counting down too quickly. The radio was on, playing some song Leon didn't recognize, and he glanced down at it with a frown before reaching to switch it off. The woods they drove through were bright with color and the Penobscot river was at its lowest point of the year with white water gushing over rocks as the road followed the bends. The beauty of the day was lost on Leon. He was taking Mickey to the closest international airport with a one way ticket to Spain and he didn't know when he'd be seeing him again.
Leon was driving Mickey's aunt's Jeep Cherokee. Mickey's luggage was in the back. The plan was to take Mickey the hour and 20 minutes to the airport, drive back to return the car, and then go into work for the evening shift at Nazaar. Leon entertained alternatives. Like not making it to the airport. Kidnapping Mickey and driving the other direction. He didn't think Mickey would protest very much. But that idea was set aside. Mickey had important things to do in Spain and everywhere else his quest would take him. The origins of his family - his real family - were a mystery that even Leon was curious about solving.
He gripped the steering wheel with both hands and focused on the road ahead. Only part of his attention was on driving while the rest shifted to the dark haired ifrit beside him in the passenger seat.
"Did you forget anything?" His question broke the silence in the car and he let go with one hand, reaching over to find Mickey's fingers to hold.
