Thread: An Outdoor Autumn Evening
WHO: Anyone!
WHEN: Friday night, Oct 9 [backdated, oops]
WHERE: Courtyard and onto the lawn, in the woods, people can wander around
It was time for the Pumpkin Party! Sara had everything ready, thanks to the help of her friends and several of her fellow Pegasus students who were always eager to lend a hand. It wasn't a Pegasus party, like some were saying, but Sara was okay with her party being attributed to her House. It put a lot more pressure on her to do a good job, but she was up to the challenge. When she got too nervous that everything was going to be a disaster, Kana was there to talk her down and get her back on track.
The party consisted of the following activities and everyone was invited to attend any or all of them! It would start to wind down as it got closer to curfew.
Pumpkin Carving & Decorating Contest:
This activity was set up close to the school so that students could dash inside if they needed running water to clean spilled paint out of clothes or wash their hands clean of pumpkin guts. The carving instruments were sharp, but "kid safe" so no one cut off any fingers, and there were tea lights available for people to light up their jack o'lanterns for when the sun went down. The first place pumpkin, voted on by all the students throughout the evening, won a gift certificate for two milkshakes at Duke's Diner and the runner-up got a $5 gift card for Marcie's coffeehouse.
Leaf Piles:
After checking with the Groundskeeper, Sara and her friends had gathered up as many leaves as they could find that had been littering the school grounds and raked them into bags that they carried over to the courtyard and the lawn, making giant piles of them for people to play in.
Pumpkin Treats:
At different areas in the courtyard were stations of food. Most of them were desserts, and all of them were either pumpkin flavored or pumpkin shaped, including Barclay's magical cookies that had a warming ingredient that would chase away the cold for anyone who ate them. The effect lasted about an hour before wearing off. Sara helped make them and talked a lot more than Barclay had asked her to. There was also hot cocoa, hot apple cider, and punch available to drink. It probably wouldn't take long for someone to spike all three.
Autumn Movie On the Lawn:
After nightfall, everyone was encouraged to bring their blankets to the lawn where Sara had set up a projector and a screen made from a large sheet that hung between the branches of a tree. The sheet fluttered lightly on the breeze. The sound was piped out from several speakers assembled around the lawn so that everyone could hear. The movie votes were in and they started first with Howl's Moving Castle followed by Friday the 13th.
