Thread: Assignment WHO: Claire & Kaden WHEN: Sometime before school started again [backdated] WHERE: Kaden's office, Ladon dorms.
School was getting ready to kick back in for the new semester and Kaden had been a busy bear. His summer cooking class had been another success, if a messy one, and he'd ushered the last of his students out of the Home Ec room to clean up and prepare for regular classes that would be starting next week. As he put things away, working quietly and efficiently, Kaden thought again about his choices for Mentors of Ladon House.
It was not an easy decision, and he doubted it ever would be. The year before had been just as troubling as this one, with his decision to pick Rob getting mixed reactions among the students as well as the staff. Ultimately, in truth, Ladon House ran itself best when it had guidance from someone who could relate, like any family. It needed attention, people who were able to take the responsibility of the somewhat rambunctious younger students as well as the drama from the older ones. Drama was inescapable in a high school setting. Not even the Mentors were immune.
So Kaden didn't make his choice based on who he thought was the best leader, the most caring or the most loving, not even the most capable. He made his decision based on who had shown the most growth. Growing was painful, but if you could grow and still not only stick around for more, but improve yourself through it all, then it was a mark of honor in Kaden's eyes. Kaden had four names in mind and had been mulling it over all summer. In the end, he'd settled on his decision and asked to see Claire when she returned to the Academy.
With the Home Ec room cleaned up, Kaden made his way back to Ladon dorms. He was a tall figure that commanded respect with his presence alone and especially in the halls, students tended to cut a path for him. He arrived at his House and cut straight to his office, only to find the door open and Claire sitting inside.
A smile broke out on his face and he stepped inside, shutting the door partially closed. "Claire Fox, punctual as always."
Micah crossed around to his desk and instead of sitting behind it, casually perched on the corner. The old desk groaned a bit, but took his weight. It had seen much worse over the years and much like his chair, was old and trusty. Bracing his hands on the edge of the desk, Kaden looked at Claire, a softness to his eyes. After all they'd been through together, especially recently with the awkward misunderstandings and student-teacher inappropriateness, and then her betrothal to the boy-wolf in another pack, Kaden admired her for how she had pulled herself through it all in one piece, her head up.
