Narrative: A Summer Of Healing
WHO: Sorin
WHEN: September 1st
WHERE: The coast.
Sorin was stretched out in the sun on the sand of the rocky coastline that bordered the school grounds, butting up against the Atlantic. The waves broke on the shore and Sorin heard some other students laughing as they played games in the surf. He grinned and looked up, propping his head on his folded arms to watch his friends, the fellow witches who had come with him, play fight on each other's shoulders. These were happy days, the first that some of them had ever known. St. Margaret's was a haven and a safety.
It was nothing like their last school. The thought of it made Sorin's smile fade. Anton castle was far away, they were safe, but they weren't the only ones who had been trapped there. Some had adjusted better than others, and Sorin still sometimes couldn't sleep alone without having nightmares. But they were healing. Sorin had been putting on some actual muscle, slowly but surely, over the summer. His skin was sun-kissed from all the days he spent by the coast. His hair had lightened, lengthened, and had been left unruly for the summer months.
Some signs of his past wouldn't go away with being fed and healthy. The birthmark that wrapped around his hip like smoke was still there, as were the scars from restraints that had been used to hold him down during shock therapy over the years. They were faded more now with all the sun he'd gotten, and he had even become less self conscious about the ugly marks left behind by the severe burn he'd been given during their escape.
Someone screamed and Sorin jerked out of his thoughts to look up. Someone had lost the play fight and toppled over backwards into the waves. They came up sputtering and laughing and Sorin had to laugh, too. He got up from the sand and dusted himself off before trotting towards the water.
"Hey Malachi! Pick on someone your own size!" he chided teasingly as he joined them.
