Thread: Sunday Hanging Out
WHO: Oliver and Leon
WHEN: Feb. 23
WHERE: Skatepark in Camden
It wasn't uncommon for the two boys to find themselves out at the skatepark on a rare sunny and somewhat warmer day for February in Maine. The people of the town had seen to make sure the blacktop was cleared, rails de-iced, and there were already several other skaters there rolling around on their boards or standing in groups talking and drinking coffee or other such warm drinks between taking turns on the half pipe.
Leon wasn't a skater. In fact, he was fairly certain if he ever got on Oliver's board, he'd fall very majestically straight to his ass. But he liked being there at the skatepark because it had a kind of energy that didn't exist in many other places. Like one verging on victory or greatness when you landed the perfect trick. Or at least dreams and visions of such. It was more crowded in the summer, but today, on a Sunday afternoon, with no classes and nowhere else to be, kids of the town came out of hiding to waste some time practicing street tricks.
Leon was perched on one of the rails of the fence that circled the compound, his feet resting on the lower bar and his head down as the fingers of his half gloved hands worked on a knot in the string he was working with in a complex braid. The dreadlocks that reached from his head like the legs of a large tarantula were left free and dangled around his shoulders under a knitted hat that was tugged down all the way to his ears, keeping him warm as he sat there and crafted while Ollie skated.
His bracelet was coming along, and Leon glanced up to check on his friend before reaching into the satchel he carried with him for another bead, adding it to the strand.
