Narrative: An Update from Home
WHO: Victoria Vazquez
WHEN: July 26, 2015 [backdated]
WHERE: On a plane from Buenos Aires, Argentina
NPCs: Romina Martorelli
Victoria and Romina spent nearly every hour of the day together since her arrival. It was like coming home. And it was more than just going back to Argentina, but coming home to everything she knew. Romina was everything. Romina was everyone. She always knew she missed her and sometimes she felt like she wasn't completely whole. Like a huge part of herself was gone without Romina there. Being with Romina made that time feel even darker and painted even happy memories with a pale shade of blue. There was plenty to like about St. Margaret's, but her absence made it feel like it could be happier if only Romina were there. It took over a week before Victoria finally said she wanted to see her family. She wouldn't be able to talk to them or even let them see her, but she wanted to see how they were doing. How big her younger sisters got over the past year. If her brother finally proposed to his girlfriend. It was meant to be a look back. To see how her family moved on and were able to live their lives. Before Victoria "died," she told her family she wanted them to be happy and that she loved them. What she ended up seeing wasn't quite the case. She'd watched her family's home all day. Her father's car didn't come out or go in. Her sisters were off from school but one was locked in her room on her computer and the other doing much the same but with a book in her hands. Her brother showed up rather late at night and pretty drunk. Victoria didn't understand what was going on, and when she looked at Romina, she knew that her best friend knew. Her best friend who also made her a vampire. A divorce. Her parents were getting a divorce. For how faithful they were to their faith, it was a big surprise. Victoria and her parents were devout Catholic. Actually, her parents and family were, and Victoria was in a state of question. Divorce wasn't really acceptable and wouldn't be recognized by the church. But supposedly the divorce proceedings began earlier that year and Romina only heard about them shortly before Victoria flew down. She didn't know how to break it to her and Victoria realized that Romina had been pretty actively tried to keep her distracted. She wanted answers. The answers came and Victoria didn't like them. After she died the family just came apart. They drifted because apparently she'd been an important member to that family. She held them together. Victoria wasn't the most spirited person, but she had played a role in the family dynamic. Nobody had stepped in to fill that and the duties weren't divvied up either. It just crumbled and now her parents were getting a divorce, her brother had taken to heavy drinking, and her younger sisters had isolated themselves from everyone else. It was hard to accept and Victoria spent a lot of time with Romina crying while her sire comforted her as best she could. Victoria was happy Romina was there, and while she felt like she should be mad at her for taking her away from them, it wasn't like it would've changed had Romina not given her the gift of vampirism. Victoria would have died anyway and her family would have drifted apart anyway. But at least she would be dead and in heaven. But what sort of heaven was it if she would look down and see her family so unhappy? On the plane now, Victoria sat with her sire next to her. They were in first class and Victoria stared out the window saying nothing. She hadn't said much of anything, and truthfully, it had been a very quiet few days since she'd seen her family. Romina understood and remained a tower of strength for her. Victoria would return to the school for a brief period of time and she was looking forward to leaving the school again with James as soon as it was possible. She'd accompanied him most of the summer as a way to have fun and travel like she'd always enjoyed. Now the traveling would be the distraction she needed from knowing that her family was no longer a family and it was all her fault. It was her fault for dying. Victoria wished she could just keep Romina with her when they returned, but vacation would be over soon for her sire and she would return to Argentina for school. And almost as if she'd read her mind, Romina spoke to Victoria. "Oye," Romina said giving Victoria's hand a light squeeze, "I'll be done with school at the end of this year. I'll find a place in Camden until you graduate. We won't be separated for much longer. Then I can continue teaching and who knows? Maybe you will not need that last year of school at St. Margaret's?" The possibility of Romina being closer than half a world away did spring to life some happiness for Victoria. It wasn't enough to completely drag her from the doldrums but it was just enough to make a ghost of a smile appear on her face. Only a few more months and then Romina would come to live in Camden for a time. As much as Victoria liked St. Margaret's for some things, she was ready to go at a moment's notice should Romina suggest it. She felt a tinge of guilt, because she and James were not an item. They were dating. He would understand though and it's not like she would be gone forever. But a year from now was an awfully long time. Thinking of James seemed to settle Victoria even more. Buenos Aires should have been fun and she was meant to come back feeling peace of mind about her family. While moments in her hometown were fun, the peaceful feeling never came there. But it was also a reminder she couldn't go back to that life and she was starting something new. Just like she was starting something new with James. |
