"That's incredible!" Leon looked surprised, "You didn't hear at all until you were ten years old, and then learned how to talk?" He wasn't sure why Teddy's demeanor changed, or his enthusiasm, but he looked nervous now suddenly and Leon glanced around them, suspecting someone had made him feel uneasy about something.
"I thought maybe a spell had caused you to lose your hearing," he continued, bringing his eyes back to Teddy. "I've heard of it happening before. In Haiti it's permanent though, unless you have a lot of money to afford something like your hearing aids. Not a lot of people do." He didn't see Teddy's disability as a big deal, especially as Teddy now had an amazing instrument that helped him hear somehow. Medicine and health advances weren't always available in the areas Leon had traveled to with his father. Technology was like magic sometimes.
