The wedding earlier that week was relatively painless for Jae. It helped that there was a lack of humans there and it made the temptation less so. She spent a lot of it avoiding humans that were there, especially Sorin, who she had a close call with at the dance. She'd been doing fine and then just like that she nearly lost it again. Davian teasing her took that uncomfortable feeling and she'd reacted poorly. She needed to apologize to him for that, but he also needed to learn when to stop. In less than a week she would be back in Korea for her mother's wedding. Her mother was getting married. Her mother who had been searching for someone for so long. Someone she could trust. By now, Jae should've been on her own, not clutching to her mother's skirt. Jae wanted her mother to be happy, but she still found it odd how much she wanted to be human. Jae didn't really have anything against humans, save for the temptation they presented to her appetite, but to be one? The bow of her violin pressed against the strings, her arm drawing back and forth. The song she played may be familiar enough to some. Jae played it from memory, eyes closed as she swayed with the music. The only other sound in the music room was the piano recording that Jae's playing kept in time with. She listened for mistakes as she always did, her mind breaking apart the chords like a mathematician might pull apart a complex equations to solve them. When Jae would finish the simple almost four-minute piece, she would start again, correcting errors or trying different stresses to see which she liked the most. Dressed simply as she often was, she had the windows open in the room to let the warmth in. It wasn't too hot yet, thankfully, and she enjoyed the light humidity that the occasional breeze pushed into the music room. It carried with it many scents that she became familiar with over her time here at St. Margaret's. Soon she would be back in Korea though and remembering what home smelled like. Not that she ever really forgot. She just wondered if it would feel like home. |
