Thread : On the New Moon who: Vangelis and Leon when: Monday evening, the New Moon where: school grounds
The stargazing centaur had gone out from the school early, taking to the grass, which he much preferred to to the sidewalks, as he made for the woods. The sogginess of the ground would make for muddy hooves, but that didn't much bother Vangelis. He walked, which soon turned into a trot, moving along the edge of the treeline. He'd made it about halfway around the campus when he came to the opening in the trees that led to the small clearing that he'd been using for gazing. He'd told Leon how to find the spot, so he was confident he'd meet him there, though he imagined he might arrive later. After a short jaunt, the trees opened up into a clearing of grass and small shrubs and a couple of saplings. He could hear the trickle of water nearby, a creek. Vangelis had arrived just in time to witness night overtaking day.
He kept to his people's ways and traditions regarding seeking knowledge from the sky, and tonight he felt even more determined to do so. An outsider would be joining him, and it hadn't been until much later after the agreement had been made that Vangelis really considered what he was doing. He'd never looked at the sky with someone other than his kind, had never explained the night sky to someone else. Even in all the history of his people, this had to be a rare thing, unless the centaurs of St. Margaret's had made a habit of consulting and discussing the stars with other kinds, which Van doubted. He hoped he hadn't made this decision too rashly.
The centaur had come to the clearing with not a human thing on him, not even a stitch of clothing. To seek communion with the sky, there should be no barriers. This was the centaur way. In general, clothing was not frequently worn by his kind without specific practical purpose. He'd been minding the school's rules that he should be clothed in class, but as often as he could get away with it, he did what he wanted when class was out , often just carrying a bag with him with a shirt in it that he could pull on if needed. Tonight, he only came with a solemn attitude and a desire to learn what he could from the sky.
Vangelis took note of the colors of the sky as the sun began to set, the patterns of the clouds. It could all be relevant. The fact that there were clouds was relevant. Clouds could conceal. There also would be no visible moon tonight, as the moon was new. Van had a feeling there would be no clear answers about anything tonight.
