Narrative: Divination
WHO: N/A
WHEN: April 14
WHERE: Beneath the castle
NPCs: Mr. Kiakos Pheres & Ms. Tisiphone Menides
Kiakos stared at the pool of black water. Since the Dragonslayer's arrival determining that what was afflicting Ashton was not biological, Mr. Pheres and Ms. Hallowfen had been working together to try and find what, then, it could possibly be. The term 'curse' had been thrown out there, which led Kiakos to believe it could be followed through a stream of divination.
Using the ancient methods his centaur tribe had perfected centuries ago, Kiakos prepared the divining pool and let it rest, undisturbed, or a whole solar cycle before he came to use it. Knowing the pressure he was under, that if he couldn't find the origin of the affliction soon enough then the Keeper would take the dragon away to die in Iceland from it, Kiakos nevertheless didn't let it mar his focus.
With absolute calm majesty, the centaur recited the words to request access to the pathway leading to the source of centaur magic. Closely tied to the heavenly bodies around them, centaur magic was timeless and yet expired quickly. The words leaving his lips in a whisper, Kiakos tipped three drops of the dragon's blood into the pool and watched the surface ripple. To an outside observer, it was just ripples. To Kiakos, trained healer and experienced diviner when tied to the healing arts, he saw a timeline of events open up and traced it back.
Ashton's spirit was under attack. Something was not where it was ever meant to be and was reacting badly to Ashton's element, that life draining power that Blake Hartley had told them about. It was twisting it to its own means and devouring the dragon's bright spirit one swallow at a time. The vitality and luster of Ashton's adolescent form was fading down, weakening him. But where had this force come from?
Kiakos delved deeper, leaning over the pool and speaking a word to direct the vision into a more specific search. There. Anger, rebellion, retribution, vindication. This had been done with direct intent to harm, and it wasn't only the dragon who was suffering.
Mr. Pheres closed the vision, splashing the water to cut it off, and rose to go directly to Ms. Menides' office.
