Thread: Orientation who: Vangelis and Mr. Kaden and Mr. Pheres when: Monday where: Ladon dorm, to start
Strange times kept getting stranger. Vangelis the centaur was used to a fairly simple life. Where he'd lived with his clan in Albania, they hadn't had large school buildings or dormitories. There had been much open land, hilly terrain enclosed by mountains and dense forest. They had a few primitive structures when shelter was necesssary, but they preferred to spend their time outdoors. There'd been no running water, they carried what they needed from the lakes. They hunted and fished, farmed and stargazed and crafted. It couldn't have been more different from this place that Vangelis now found himself.
He'd arrived in the morning and had been given the customary meet and greet with the Headmistress and a few of the staff, then was sent off with Mr. Pheres until the school day was over. He tried to stay out of the healer's way and let him go about his business, but couldn't help asking a few questions about the school, his accommodations, what his new routine would be like. At one point, he heard the campus come alive with voices and looked out the window to see the students, who he tended to think of as humans though he'd been told that many of them were not, spilling out onto the smooth square stones, that he'd heard someone call a 'sidewalk'. He didn't understand the phrase as people seemed to be walking perfectly normally on it, not sideways or anything.
Soon after, Vangelis was told it was time to go to his dorm, which he was informed was where he would be living. He gathered up a large leather messenger bag which held all he'd brought with him, slinging it over his shoulder. He was wearing nothing else, which he'd been told was okay for the moment, but he'd be expected to wear something on his top half when attending classes. Van followed the healer out onto the campus, avoiding the sidewalk, preferring to walk across the grass, as he was used to doing. They were a sight to see crossing the campus, and most students still outside did stop for a moment to take in the pair of centaurs, the Healer leading the new one, smaller with a tanned human-looking half and black horse-like body, across campus toward the Ladon dorm. Once at the dorm and inside the building, Vangelis was led a short way down a long, cramped-feeling hallway. They stopped in front of a door which Van was told was his room, his own private space for sleeping and living. While Mr. Pheres excused himself to go find Mr. Kaden, the younger centaur looked in on his new surroundings.
Vangelis couldn't say that he liked his room, though it was easier to take in than anywhere else he'd been in the school so far. It was sparsely furnished, and he found himself thankful that the room wasn't full of strange, odd, confusing items, like the Healer's workspace had been, or the Headmistress's office. There was a desk, which would be useful for writing and studying, though he had no need for the desk chair. The bed was raised on a frame, he saw, and that would be something else he would need to change. He was used to the ground for sleep, so while a mattress might actually be nice, he'd be getting rid of the bed frame and keeping the mattress on the floor. There was another chair he saw, something else to be rid of. He moved to the window, which had a spiderweb forming in it's top corner. He'd noticed spiders in the hallways as well. He hadn't seen any in the other building, but felt a sort of comfort finding them inside here. He glanced around the window frame, trying to see how it opened. His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on his door. "You may enter", he called out.
