Alex did not forget. He, however, was perfectly capable of forgiving. But was he going to forgive the dragon? Oh, hell no. The dragon had it coming and Alex was going to teach him a lesson. Just because Alex was small and smart-mouthed, didn't mean that he wasn't without his own strengths. He didn't lumber around like some giant oaf with his chest puffed out and shouting at people for not meeting his own strange expectations. No, that was the dragon alright, and Alex had gone to work. The embarrassment of St. Valentine's Day was over and while Alex was very aware of the reaction from others (and their doubt that what Alex said was actually the truth), it was dying down. A little. But it taught Alex something. The most important being that he couldn't just leave his body willy-nilly, and so he really needed to get this thing under control, but also that in the spirit world, there was a lot he could do that nobody would ever notice. They would feel it, but they wouldn't actually see him. Sure, he was limited in what he could do, but that list of things (no matter how small it was) provided him with a potential means of revenge against Ashton. What he did was more or less an experiment as it was Alex's attempt to serve out some sweet vengeance. He'd noticed after picking off a small speck of darkness from his bamboo plant that it looked healthier and happier. Whatever it had been, as it turns out, was making it sick. It wasn't curing cancer, but it had been something, and it made a bit of a difference. No, he couldn't fight off spirits looking to tear apart Leon, but he could deal with small things. And well, that made Alex wonder. It made him wonder that if he could take something off of someone, could he put something on? It was worth trying out, and certainly worth experimenting on Ashton for. This revenge, in his mind, was as educational as much as it was satisfying. Alex found something small. It was only a little bigger than the one he'd found on the plant, but he hoped it would be enough. Sure, Alex would love to cripple Ashton in some manner, but he really just wanted to frustrate him. Annoy him. Make him uncomfortable. If this wasn't enough, Alex was confident he could find something else. He even doubted himself when he came across the dragon's spirit. He'd see Ashton as a dragon once, and memories of that night on the beach where the dragon decided to take Alex for a midnight flight came back to him vividly. It was hard to believe something that big was housing in someone so small. Sure, Ashton wasn't tiny in the human-form he took, but in comparison to the dragon, he was pretty puny. No matter, Alex was going to do this. So he'd approached and laid the small black smudge on the dragon's spirit. He did so carefully and quietly, not that Ashton's spirit would have noticed. Regardless, with the deed done, Alex slipped away and returned to his body that he'd made a deal with another spirit to watch over until he got back. Alex was learning that some of the spirits in this school weren't so bad, and thankfully not stupid teenage girls. The one who was looking over his body had felt bad for what happened to Alex, so he offered to lend a hand until Alex could put a lock on his body so it wouldn't accept other spirits. That had been over two weeks ago. He'd noticed that Ashton was in a grumpier mood than usual, and Alex really hoped it was because of what he did. But he wasn't going to seek the dragon out to gloat over him. That would only get Alex in trouble and really, the only people who knew that Alex was planning revenge were Fred and Davian. Davian was too chicken shit to say anything about it and nobody would think him capable of making someone physically ill, and Fred, well, Alex and Fred had an agreement. They kept their mouths shut because if one of those secrets spilled from their conversation in the Hydra dorm, others would come out in retaliation. Besides, Alex liked Fred. She was the only Hydra he didn't think was either crazy or a complete asshole (and most of them tended to fit both of those criteria). As Alex came into the library, he spotted Ashton and his curiosity was getting the better of him. He wanted to see for himself if it had worked. He grabbed a couple of books on music theory and then came to sit at a table not too far from Ashton. He did not acknowledge the dragon, but then again, it's not like Ashton would. Alex also made it a point not to let Ashton think he could hold over him what happened on the beach. He may not have taken Alex's threat seriously, but Alex wasn't going to cower. That wasn't his style. There was a sniffle and Alex looked up from his book. It was clearly from Ashton, but he didn't say anything. He looked down at his book, but he didn't pay attention to the words on the page. He instead sat. Watching through the corner of his eye and waiting. |
