Thread: Serpents and Servants WHO: Paxton Rivera & Ashton Hartley WHEN: Feb 4, after Philosophy Class WHERE: Library
Ashton wasn't very pleased to be placed with Paxton for this upcoming debate on Nature vs. Nurture. Not only did the dragon not like analyzing existentialism, particularly when he was forced to look inward, but he did not like the idea of discussing a debate stance with the demon who had won the story contest for the upcoming play over him. Ashton was jealous. He'd wanted to do well, had wanted to write something that he could see come to life in the kind of way he envisioned it, and he had been invested in his story, reworking several parts, carefully adjusting characters just so in order to communicate the moral, the meaning behind it all.
But before he could finish, the assignment was over and Ms. Edouard had called the winner. Somehow he had missed the note saying it would only run for the rest of January and not a full month. He'd watched his classmates congratulate Paxton and Ashton had hated it. He'd been envious of the Envy demon.
Normally Ashton enjoyed Philosophy class. He liked to think about and study human emotions, human ways of thinking through problems and why they did things a certain way. But the dragon greatly disliked being questioned on his own philosophies and beliefs, largely because he felt he hadn't learned enough to even know his own opinions yet. He was still forming those. Unfortunately part of his time at St. Margaret's was to arrive at some kind of a conclusion, ultimately, on how he saw things. It was what made Philosophy class both enjoyable and stressful.
He walked silently with the demon to the library which wasn't far from their classroom. Once inside, Ashton moved to his preferred table, coming around to set his books down and shift a green eyed look at Paxton before he pulled out a chair and folded his tall frame to sit. Ashton felt a hostility towards Paxton, but he tried to keep it from reflecting in his behavior. Ashton was not a good actor. He cut right to the chase.
"What is nature if not the result of cumulative nurturing? One is not complete without the other. This assignment is ridiculous."
