Leon clarified and Lilie managed to keep her smile in tact though some of the mirth left her eyes. She didn't want to think about life after the academy because she knew what it held. Marriage. Babies. A life that wasn't of her choosing. She may have one day wanted that but she was so young. It was too young to be thinking about any of that at all. Lilie always made being an elf sound like it was the greatest thing, and in a lot of ways, she was happy about being an elf. But there was a downside to everything.
By the time he finished talking, Lilie wished she had a shot of whiskey and not a cup of coffee in front of her. "I don't like spending too much time worrying about the future," she said finally, "I mean, I have ideas of what I want to do, but nothing concrete. I think most of us don't know what we're doing until we're a couple years into college. Some people know and they stick with it, some people think they know and then a year into college they've tried declaring sixteen different majors and are still questioning the one they've settled on."
Was college even an option for her? Maybe not. Lilie brought her thumb to her lips, pressing the nail against her bottom front teeth and then shrugging, "Most elves end up in sports or something. I kinda liked acting in the play though. It was a lot of fun. Maybe my life is destined for the stage or movies. What about you? I mean, you've got a whole new world ahead of you now, don't you? You could probably do everything if you wanted."
