"Hn," Leon smiled, looking down again after Jae evaded answering. He had seen her blinking look of surprise. She knew he was on the chase, which meant she was now on the run and it would make it more interesting. Not impossible, challenging, certainly. But definitely more interesting. It was one goal to find out what Jae was. It was another to see what lengths she went, what kind of moral rules she would bend, to keep him from finding out and what it meant for what she actually was. Because why hide it if it wasn't something terrible or dangerous?
"This?" He turned his hand towards her, the mark better visible on the flesh of his hand between thumb and forefinger. "It's Mambo Erzulie's veve. She's one of the Loa. The spirit goddess of vanity and love. Her story is kind of tragic, really." Leon passed his thumb over the mark. "She's never able to attain her heart's most fervent desire." Again his eyes lifted to Jae. "So she lies with and loves men and women who will never love her like she loves them."
He dragged his hands back, fingers catching on the edge of the piano case. "Can you imagine? Hiding behind something that isn't real because you're too afraid to admit the truth?"
