Caleb + Open
His better judgement aside, Caleb decided that should he be invited to a party, he should go to it. It wasn't a difficult concept, and he should be happy to get invited anywhere, for any reason. It was a little surprising how in-demand his friends made him feel, since he was a Mentor of a House, an Expert and...a siren.
Besides, it would have been rude. James had been nothing but nice to him and Caleb decided it was time he returned the favor. He hadn't invited anyone, though, figuring Rob was busy and Valentin was...complicated. Instead, he came alone, which worked out just fine.
Seeing the karaoke machine made Caleb's stomach clench but he was in the mood to have some fun. After talking up a friendly male bartender he took two shots of vodka, back to back. Before the warmth could fade, he slipped to the tuner and picked a song he figured would be good.
His stomach was in cramps as the song started playing, but after a settling breath, the siren sang with all the joy in his heart and a smile on his face. One Republic's 'Counting Stars' had the strength of the lead, the harmonizing of the chorus and the pitch of a classically-trained vocalist.
Once the song was over Caleb was at a loss of breath, averting his eyes from the crowd as he set the mic back and made his way off stage, already wondering if he should sing something else, chancing a glance at the first person he saw to gauge their reaction.
If he had sounded horrible, at least James could say he had a siren sing at his party.
