Various Places — Lilie & Ashton
"How much more?" Ashton wondered curiously, hearing the challenge in her voice but confused by what she meant. As she leaned into him, Ashton stood firmly in place, but the buzz was coming back and he gave an awkward kind of smile. "We'll find out," because if it was a challenge, then he'd rise to face it.
But then Lilie stopped his hand and Ashton looked at her, cocking his head again in question. "A drinking song? Very well." He'd heard of these, of course. These were the things characters did sometimes in books he read and movies he watched. Some cultures had some very ridiculous drinking songs, but if Lilie decided it was part of his party education, so be it.
He scooped out three bottles in one hand, their necks grasped between his long fingers, and they clinked together, dripping melted ice from the cooler. "I have never sung before," he confessed in a whisper that was probably too loud to be considered a whisper. But he meant it as a secret for Lilie, having said it against her ear.
