Thread: Lucky Rabbit Foot
WHO: Ashton Hartley/Celebrimbor and OPEN
WHEN: Tues night/Weds morning in the wee hours
WHERE: Sport Fields
The dragon had checked and double checked his lair, spending time with his precious hoard, ensuring the wards that Ms. Hallowfen had put up were still there. From what he had been told, after inspecting them closely, the runes were in perfect working order. Ashton had grunted with satisfaction before spreading his wide black wings and lifting off his ledge to circle over the forest just beyond the cliff.
He couldn't help scanning for sign of the golden hind. Aware he had already given his word that he would not hunt it, there was still that nagging certainty that something glorious and delicious all in one had been denied him, and it irked the black creature of lore.
Irritable, and giving an unhappy rumbling growl, Celebrimbor turned to make his way back to the Academy and seek out Barclay when something caught his eye. Down below, just on the edge of the forest near the soccer field, a white hare had ventured out of its cover to nibble on fresh grass. Ashton's silver eyes swirled as they focused on the prey animal. It was against the rules to hunt on school grounds, but still the dragon's mouth watered.
Rabbits had invaded the school earlier that spring and the dragon had had no luck in catching a single one until Barclay gave him some sleep potions to make them slower. This time, the beast decided as he circled silently, dropping out of the sky without sound straight on top of the hare, he would not be eluded. He just wanted to see if he could catch it, of course. Not eat it. Prove to himself that he was a great hunter.
The dragon landed heavily on the clipped lawn of the field, claws enclosed and hunching over his prey with a short gleeful sound. He'd done it! On the first try! Ashton wished Barclay or Emily or Kana were there to see how skilled he was, let them praise him for being such a mighty predator - until something white moved out of the corner of his eye.
Turning his horn crested head with a snort of disbelief, Celebrimbor saw the white rabbit racing at a mad pace across the field away from him.
Erupting into motion with a sharp trumpeting sound of attack, Ashton lunged after it, making his leap extended with spread wings that helped his 25 foot long body gain extra ground until he was on top of the rabbit again. This time he checked to be sure, peeking under his clasped hands to see if he'd caught his quarry only for the clever rabbit to leap out off his nose and bound away again.
Ashton snorted out in an angry huff, the glowing fire in his throat brightening with the passing of oxygen over ignition glands, though he didn't try to torch the rabbit. Instead, the chase resumed, Ashton lunging after the quick little long eared creature, which then managed to escape his clutches and dart and dodge around, even at one point zig zagging between and around the dragon's legs to escape capture.
Ashton's claws, by then, had torn gouges in the field's lawn and he was making quite the ruckus, expressing his frustration and the vain attempt to trap such a simple thing as a tasty and annoying little rabbit.
