Normally Lilie played lacrosse but she'd taken to playing soccer this year. Her family going crazy doing the World Cup wasn't the inspiration, but she figured she needed to try something new. So soccer it was and with play practice, it was keeping her busy enough. She wasn't sitting around and thinking about everything anymore. Well, not as much. It was frustrating when she did think about it, so she tossed herself into whatever she could to distract herself and it was easy to think about it less. She was getting to a point where she'd have to stop and try to think about it instead of it all invading her thoughts on occasion. Other worries did take the forefront though. Mickey's isolation being the first one. Yeah, they slept with each other once, but Lilie still thought of him as a friend. It felt wrong seeing Mickey so glum. But she had to remind herself that he'd been through a horrible experience. One that others seemed to recover from, but it wasn't the same for everyone. She just wished . . . she just wished he would talk about it instead of just shutting down. Lilie ran across the field wearing running shorts with a black tank top over her sports bra and a warm-up jacket over top of that. Paying sports got her blood bumping and sweaty, and while her legs were a little chilly, she'd been running around enough that some sweat soaked the stray hairs around her forehead that weren't able to be pulled into her ponytail. They were scrimmaging for now, and Lilie was grateful her legs allowed her a lengthy stride across the field. Elves were nimble and fast, and when it came to sports they were pretty much always good. Lilie was not an exception to this. Her cleats would dig into the earth to give her a spring forward in another direction, and a few times she'd been able to kick the ball right between the legs of others on the team. Soccer was difficult to score in though, and she wasn't the only person on the team that knew what they were doing. The ball passed to her and she maneuvered her way around another player before making a shot on the goal. It wasn't some beautiful header nor a scissor kick or off the chest, but it went sailing to the goal anyway. Unfortunately, the goalie caught it and she made a face. With a shake of her head she was back on the field again as the goalie threw the ball back into play across the field. Lilie focused on the game and not on anything else. Not on home or Mickey or schoolwork or even how she was going to get her costume past the adults so she could get away wearing it to classes. |
