Cressida watched as he lost more control. Had his lust for gold gone this far that he was going to abandon reason and shift into his true form to make his point? Something would have to be done and she would need to speak to members of staff about this. She had a feeling that Ms. Menides already had this handled, but he didn't seem to be handling it otherwise. This deer was likely to be a true test of his ability to control himself. And it took every inch of self-control not to throw a spell into the dragon's face to paralyze him. He had yet to attack her, though his fingernails scratching into the wood of her desk.
He calmed himself though before any spells were needed. He apologized and then picked up the chair, seating himself in it. Cressida didn't realize she'd been holding her breath until that moment she breathed out slowly. "And I for provoking you," she said, "but Ashton, you will have to learn to accept that despite your feelings about Corinna, Ms. Menides has the final word." Her voice wasn't soft but it certainly lacked the previous hardness to it. There finality in it instead, making it clear to Ashton that it was ultimately his decision now.
"I will be taking some precautions with Corinna for the time being," she said and leaned forward with her hands clasped before her, "there will be wards protecting her and I will do my best to make sure that they may even hide her from your view. But Ashton—" she looked him directly in the eyes, "—I cannot begin to say that I understand what the importance of gold is to you, but I will say that you must learn not to let it control you. It is easy to give in, but it is a weakness that a Dragonslayer would exploit to his advantage. You control your lust for it and that is one less thing that Mr. Hartley may hold over you. It is a process and it will take time, but you will be stronger for it."
She wasn't even sure if he was listening, or if he would take her words to heart at all, but s it was now, she could see Hartley easily destroying one of the few great creatures left in this world. And as much as Ashton loved gold, it would be his undoing.
