thread: apologies & chatting (cressida & garret)
WHO: Garret Dove & Cressida Hallowfen
WHEN: Sept. 4 [backdated]
WHERE: Hydra dorms, Cressida's office

Cressida knew to expect Garret, as he did arrange finally to meet with her. Their brief exchange over the school's network left her lacking in enthusiasm, but duty was duty, and perhaps a face-to-face meeting would improve things. As with other times, Cressida sat patiently in her office waiting for Garret to arrive and Lord Byron would alert her of it. His hearing, despite his age, and his sense of smell remained excellent, and he could pick up on those approaching. And much like the previous times, he made sort of a gruff sound to let Cressida know that Garret was getting closer. She had some fresh tea ready, as always, and came to answer the door, opening it as Garret came before it.

"Mr. Dove, welcome," she said in greeting politely and stepped aside, "come in and take a seat." She motioned for him to enter with a hand. When Garret came in, he'd see the tall bookcase filled to the brim with books of all ages and if he looked closely, he'd take note of the age of some of them and also their subjects. Ranging from magic to biology, and a few from unknowns in the world of science, but well known among witches. Some looked even older than that, their binding nearly worn off. The plants in the room ranged from the common to the extremely rare, and the furniture was all wooden, but elegant in its designed. The room had the light scent of jasmine, centered on the tea pot resting on the oak table.

Cressida closed the door once Garret was within the office and she moved to take her seat in her chair. Lord Byron rested nearby, seemingly uninterested in the young witch that was now in the room. Then again, Lord Byron seemed to care little for those that came into the office, save for Ashton, who, the previous day, had decided to make a point of noticing the dog and almost challenge it as well.

"Maybe," Garret agreed in the most noncommittal way he could. He doubted he'd ever leave the lower 48, but that wasn't a bad thing. There was plenty to explore where he was, without needing to get a passport. Honestly, he wasn't sure if he even had a birth certificate, given his parents' penchant for not going for actual medicine when they were actually sick.

"Well, I guess so. Sometimes, they just become what they're supposed to be, you know? I like the ones that help people," he said quickly, because those were the best kinds. "Even though I don't really make them that way, but if someone needs a boost of confidence before a date or a test, I'm their guy, and it makes me feel good. I mostly use pebbles, just tiny things run smooth in creek beds. Charming something bigger than my fist is really taxing."

"That's the lovely thing about charms," Cressida said, "they don't really have to be very big, in fact, they're better and far more useful when then can be held in the palm of a hand, worn around a neck, or even on a bracelet." She knew that many witches had a bracelet of charms they wore at all times. They were small, and while it seemed like only a decoration to an unknowing person, those charms were powerful in their own right.

She found it innocent, and kind of him to enjoy making charms for others. "Have you ever been commissioned to make them? Or do you prefer to make them as favors or gifts to others?" She didn't frown upon people making charms for others, especially if they were useful or kind. It was just curious, and perhaps spoke a lot about their character, if they didn't charge. Not everyone did things out of the kindness of their own heart.

"Oh yeah," Garret said, taking a gulp of his tea. "When someone wants one for a test or a date or something, I charge. I do give them as gifts and if any of my good friends need one, they'd get one." But, as a witch and a member of a coven who made their livelihood off of charged objects, it seemed natural to him to charge for his services.

"I don't put my charms in jewelry, but I think that would be something cool to do. Maybe some silver wires intertwined so the pebble could nest. Is...that something we could work on?"

"I find you would draw a different sort of customer if you did," Cressida said, "Not bad though. And it seems like you are already thinking of ways to do it." She liked that. Garret's creative mind was now moving along to another path he could take his charms onto. Bracelets were common and an easy way to hide it. Necklaces worked in much the same way. Some people just preferred to keep their charms in their pockets.

She nodded, "That is something we could work on. Perhaps we may meet again if you wish and you can bring forward your plans and ideas. I'm sure what charms you could put on there could be useful and beneficial to those that purchase or receive them."
