It felt strange, returning to St. Margaret's. It should have felt like coming home, but it didn't. The school didn't feel the same to him, though Adrian was well aware that it was he who had changed, not anything else. He had become a part of his family, of his people, the Kab tribe of fae of the Yucatan rainforest. He was named Nuukik, meaning 'answer', and his people were looking to him to bring answers of how they could preserve their dwindling rainforest home, of how they could survive. They were expecting him to put away childish things and think of his people first now. He had done so for the month he'd been with them. It had been easy to do so living amongst them and being in his fae form the entire time.
But now he was back, he was among humans, and he felt conflicted. He'd been raised by humans, lived as one, but Adrian understood bitter feelings his people had toward humankind. He felt much the same way at times. The humans were destroyers, causing much harm to the entire planet in such a short time. The easiest way Adrian discovered to deal with the internal conflict was to flee from it. He didn't have classes yet, so he spent more time than ever in his fae form, in the forest. The time with his people had changed him in several ways. He was more sensitive to the forest now, felt more in tune with the trees and plants and creatures. He found work for himself, not too dissimilar to what he'd been doing in the Yucatan, rehabilitating the sick, helping things to grow. He enjoyed it, though he did feel some loneliness, doing it alone.
As dusk approached, Adrian flitted out from the depths of the woods, approaching the treeline. He could see the school buildings and a few students in the distance. The fae found a low tree branch to rest on and observe. He did a fair job of blending in thanks to his dark skin tone and the tribal fae work garment he was wearing, a simple loincloth of woven grasses. He relaxed and leaned back against the branch. His eyes slipped closed, only opening suddenly a few minutes (or perhaps more) later as a sudden noise startled him.
