"Hey, tell your other half to stop getting you pregnant," she smiled wearily, tucking a lock of her own hair back behind her ear.
Sook couldn't help but sigh in exhaustion and pain now that her barrier had finally broken. "I forget how young she is, really. She grew up in a safer world with both her parents. She doesn't know how hard it'll be around here without that crutch to rely on." Taking a deep breath that shook her shoulders, Sook replaced the door of the fridge so she didn't have to look at the damn pie anymore. "You wanna do me a favour and eat the rest of those leftovers?"
She couldn't protect her family, she couldn't rely on anyone to stick around or protect her either. She just had to live every day and appreciate them in turn. Her heart was broken but she had learned a very valuable lesson. "Sorry I woke you up Izz."
