Cuddy had taken the test several times, unable to believe it at first. The few early pregnancy symptoms she had experienced were fatigue and a missed period, both of which could have been easily explained as perimenopause. Given the difficulty she'd had when she was actually trying to get pregnant, an unplanned pregnancy had seemed impossible. She'd only taken the first test because as a doctor, it was the first thing to rule out when there was a missed period. The other tests had been at the hospital, including a self-administered blood test.
When Cuddy had finally accepted that this was real, she knew she wanted to do this pregnancy different than her others. Back in Princeton, she tried to keep her pregnancies a secret from everyone, even when she miscarried. This was different. The father was also the man she loved and she knew would celebrate this pregnancy with her. And if, god forbid, she lost this pregnancy too - he'd be there to grieve with her.
This was a time to be happy. She had found herself looking through different online videos of how other women told their partners that they were expecting. And when the family had decided to decorate pumpkins, she decided on what she thought would be a special way. She didn't wait for Amy's class; she had locked herself in her office and made the perfect pumpkin display, based on one she'd seen online. Her display had two 'kid pumpkins' labelled Oskar and Rachel, a 'daddy pumpkin' and a 'mommy pumpkin' with a pumpkin inside it simple labelled baby. She waited until the children were sleeping and Giles was in the shower, then took the pumpkins out of a hiding spot and set them up on a dresser in the bedroom. Now, all there was to do was wait for Giles to come into the bedroom.
