Daniel was so tired he could barely feel his feet anymore, let alone see them properly. If he had been on his own he was pretty sure he would have given in by now. Tired brown eyes looked down at the two ten year olds trudging next to him. They both looked ready to drop. He reached out a steadying hand as his daughter stumbled over a root and offered her a small encouraging smile. It turned sad as she straightened up and gamely continued on, Dylan moving closer to her just in case. No child should have to go through this.
Daniel shook his head and readjusting the pile of bags that were currently weighing down his already weary, thin frame. He repressed a chill that went through him as he looked at their surroundings once more. The foliage and sounds had changed. He hoped it was his own fragile mind playing tricks on him but he made sure to stay even more alert than his already hyper-nigh paranoid state. He also made sure not to let on to the kids that something felt wrong.
