Asgard. It was beautiful. The great city stretched before the group with water glistening over the falls and buildings towering to the skies, shimmering in the sun of the early morn. Thor sighed, heavy with peace, joy, and humility at the return home. The forest behind them echoed the sounds of life with birds singing their waking song, trees rustling in a warm breeze that flew by, and the water passing along just before their standing place. The sun's rays cast an other worldly glow upon the world, crisp and golden with the sky bright filled with fluffy clouds.

Thor took two steps forward before taking a playful leap down off of the hilly ledge the portal had placed them on. The grass folded beneath his boots and as he moved there was a flicker, waver, and his crimson cape materialized in hand. As he turned back with a broad, boyish smile to look at his family and friends the rest of his armor appeared. It was good to be home.

"Quickly!" he called to them, raising his arms as if in victory. "We must take advantage of our glorious return while time is at our side!"

((I am going to manage a small battle after everyone makes an introduction post! There will be an animal stampeding from the wood in attack. We'll only need a handful of posts to defeat the beast, so as to keep the thread moving and not make the fight itself be the focus--but who doesn't love RPing a mighty god once in a while? ;D ))

Loki stepped through the portal and his armour manifested just as his brother's had done, glimmering gold in the Asgardian sunshine. He felt the connections to the realms, saw the pathways and could taste the souls of a trillion creatures singing out as they had done before. His mind had been so cut off from the universe, being stuck on that island, but now he felt... "Freedom at last..." he grinned mischievously, his helmet shimmering into existence on his head. He was a King, a God, a Prince and now he was home.

"Only the mead from Brunhilde's barrels could floor your uncle, little Katherine...." he laughed and suddenly his sceptre moulded into his grip. "Would you like to look the part as well or shall you stay in those rags?" In his eyes, she was a Princess and a demi-God in training: no higher being should be reduced to mortal cloth.

Katherine's eyes shone as she glanced back at her father and she smirked slightly. Another great example of predictability. A few months ago his words would have pierced into her insecurities, slashed them open and let them leak. But there were barely any left. She did not even feel insulted anymore.

For her, clothes did not matter. It was the mind and the attitude that did. Nonetheless, she averted her eyes as if in thought. "But they are my favourite rags..." she said with a smirk, looking back up at him. "Oh well, I'll give it a go." She let the smirk fade to a smile and bowed her head shortly. "Thank you, father."

Sif hadn't known what to think at the appearance of a portal to their home, even as Thor so enthusiastically showed it to her on the screen of his speaking-device. At first of course, she wanted to be elated- to be as ecstatic and giddy as her counterpart for a long-overdue trip back to the place they belonged. But a shadow lingered in the back of her smile that kept her firmly rooted to the ground while his head soared into the clouds. Some might call it paranoia. After months of being trapped on the island and seeing its tricks, and with her lingering suspicion of Loki, Sif called it necessary caution.

She stepped through the world-rift last, the dutiful and on guard and praying the thing did not suddenly snap shut before she had a chance to come out the other side. When she did, however, the sweet familiar air welcomed her in embrace. Her smile was wide and joyful, and bubbled with a small chirp of delighted laughter as the breeze coiled through her hair. With a long awaited and happy thought, her own armor, all polished silver and crimson, materialized over the mortal garb she would never be completely used to. The weight of her sword and shield, more missed than she realized.

A little of that cautious shadow lightened, but it had not dissolved completely. Sif smirked quietly at the clever exchange between Thor and his niece, joining him with a nimble drop as Loki and Kat went about discussing wardrobe.

"I am not particularly inclined to believe we are here simply by wishful thinking," the war-goddess quipped quietly at Thor's side, sending a discerning look back toward the forest. "Has this happened before?"

The blond man laughed in that jovial way of his, turning his gaze on Katherine and then nodding with another laugh of agreement to Loki. "He is right, Katherine," Thor sang as he stretched, feeling for once not too big for the world. Everything on Midgard was the same relative size and scale yet he often felt too large, too strong, and always had to be careful not to crush. Children's toys were especially dangerous.

"Let him, you will enjoy it!" the heir then went on to say with a nod before Katherine could agree. This was a time to revel in what they had, not worry, and he wanted Katherine to get the full experience while she could! Loki's wizardry wouldn't harm her--at least, so Thor thought. He still so badly wanted to believe in his brother's second chance at life.

His gaze then dropped to Sif and he smiled at her in a kinder, different way. "You worry too much," he said with a warm hand clapping around her back gently. "I cannot recall the arrival to Asgard since our stay upon the island, but I cannot ignore this, either. Let us go to our f--" Thor turned his gaze up in what only felt as if in slow motion as the world suddenly shook. It was distant at first but something broke through the trees and brush, sounds growing louder, the shaking more and more violent.

A trumpet pierced the sky. Crashing from the wood appeared a monstrous creature as tall as the three gods standing upon one another's shoulders. It had four horns upon his head--two on the top and two below those on the sides--and looked like an elephant mixed with a boar. It also looked very, very angry. Charging, the beast narrowly missed going through or trampling over the portal as it head straight for the travelers. Another trumpet, a warning.

Thor reached for his hammer, the air coursing with static even as he drew his weapon.

As quickly as she had agreed, Loki waved the sceptre over Katherine's dark hair, armour manifesting itself along with a shield strapped to her forearm for protection. Perhaps he was being pessimistically cautious, but his only daughter's half-mortal life was on the line if the scent on the air was to be believed. Loki had barely lowered the sceptre when the ground shook beneath them all and he glanced to Thor to confirm his suspicions. His dear brother had always a talent for jumping straight into a battle as soon as he came home. "Oh I did so miss home..." he muttered to Thor.

Loki's black hair whipped back with the force of Mjolnir soaring past him and into Thor's brutish hand. "Trial by fire, daughter; your time has come..." he said, the sceptre glowing menacingly. "Brother?"

The eyes of the young Jotun glimmered as she inspected her new armour. It raised her from a mere guest to someone who belonged here. The straps of her shield were carefully tested to see how much flexibility she had left for maneuvering. They only had had a few training sessions working with a shield but she could make it work. Just in case...

The case arrived before she could answer. And fuck, the case was huge. The beast was of magnificent height and powerful stature. Beautiful in its own angry way. It was also out to get them which did not leave much time for admiration.

Katherine freed her spear from where it was slung over her shoulder. The safe thing would be to hide behind the three gods. She had tried to stay out of the last big battle and the one time she had joined, she had not been left feeling too well afterwards. But that had been months ago, her training had progressed and right now her instructors were with her. What better chance would she have to experience a real fight.

She shortly nodded at her father, eyes barely leaving the beast. Her focus was at the fight. Her mind skipped to the future, where she wanted to be, what she wanted to do. She held the spear up high in a throwing position. Then she vanished and reappeared at the side of the creature. With one swift movement she thrust the spear into its hind leg. She had hoped for the stomach but her timing had been off. With the strap she pulled the spear back. The earth vibrated from the mighty beast and she staggered back a few feet, quickly updating everyone else's activities in her mental map.

Sif's blades were unsheathed the moment the cacophony crashing through the trees had a certain pattern to it. Familiar, like a lullaby one hadn't heard in far, far too long. Such was clear as crystal on the goddess's face, which now bore wide, wild eyes and a grin that favored one cheek more than the other. Especially when the beast cleared the forest, and trumpeted it's territorial intention.

Only an expectant glance in Thor's direction stayed her. Where she expected the same enthusiastic excitement for battle, there was a thoughtful calm on his face. Confused, she caught his eye with a questioning look, then tracked it beyond the two of them to Katherine, just in time to see her flick out of existence, materialize, and make her strike.

A strike that was inexperienced and off-center, but not a complete loss. Sif was still ready, and while her nerves twitched for the satisfaction of a true challenge, she delayed their gratification- for now.

"She is not used to the weight-" Sif commented in a lean toward her heavily muscled companion. "Were you not training her with the armor?"

Thor nodded in response to Loki, then later to Sif. "I have," he said. "It is not only armor that causes her imbalance." He gave a small, thin smile as he raised his hammer but held his place for another moment. "It is her first battle. It is her first foot to Asgard. We travel the realms for fun, she has never traveled a realm at all." The blond then gave his usual gruff huff and moved forward.

"Brother, Sif. Stay the beast. Katherine will learn her lesson!" His thin smile turned into a wider one the second his heavy hammer cracked against the side of the boar's head. Thor could have beaten the beast up himself, no doubt could the others, but he only wanted to daze it, slow it, and buy Katherine time to make the mark.

"Katherine! Remember what I taught you! Feet apart, bend your knees, dig in!"

The boar did not take kindly to Katherine and bled heavily from its stuck side. It rocked on it's monstrous, piggish hooves and swung around to hit the girl. If the others had not stunned it first, the demi god might have become dust. The elephant-boar roared, a trumpet of rage, staggering, which was dangerous in itself.

It struck Loki as an oddity that Katherine would just hack at the beast with a spear but he held his tongue. The girl had to stand on her own two feet, even though he desperately wanted to tell her what tricks to use to daze it enough to slay it cleanly and quickly. Mjolnir's blow against its head was enough to make it swipe dangerously close to his daughter and Loki saw a spot of red in his vision.

The roaring was deafening, the stench of fresh blood from that beast was disgustingly metallic. "Katherine, you can do this. Do not underestimate it or you..." he said, distracting her as he sent a vision in the opposite direction to attract the beast's attention away from his fragile girl.

Illusions were not a favorite of Sif's. When she could not trust what her senses were telling her, she could not anticipate cause and reaction; brute strength, weapons expertise, and strategy all became unpredictable and somewhat futile. But everyone had their weaknesses.

Right now and most every other time, the goddess played to her strengths. Before Thor's words even left his throat, she was on the move, keeping sharp tabs on where the others were in comparison to the beast. She moved near it's hind haunches, blades drawn and ready to slice through tendon and cripple the thing, should it hold long enough to shake off Mjolnir's blow.

Her eyes flickered in thought as she mulled over what to do. All of the three gods could kill the beast without hesitation. But she did not have Thor's strength, Sif's battle experience or her father's magical skills. She had her brain. Where are the beasts vulnerable parts? Eyes? Too high. Heart? Too close to anything that might get dangerous. She could continue to stab it into the side but it felt like a kitten scratching a bull.

She could teleport. She could get anywhere. That was her strength... that and ice. A sly grin spread over her face as she looked up at the beast's back. Her left hand started to take on a blue colour and form a blade of ice.

She only needed one moment. Her father provided it moments later. The beast's attention shifted to the side and Katherine made her attack. She appeared on the back of the creature and rammed her spear into the side to have something to hold onto. The beast roared and she tightened the grip not to fall off. Hey, it was only reckless if it did not work, right? She thrust the blade into the neck and let the ice spread through the nervous system. Take it's ability to move and there was nothing it could do against the parasite on its back. Make its heart and breathing stop and it would die altogether. It only took a moment before the beast started to crumble and Katherine felt the dire need to get the fuck away from it. She broke off the connection to the blade and took a leap. She rolled the fall off when she landed and almost crashed into a tree. Oh well, she had to work on the grade for style. She slowly got to her feet as the dying beast swayed.

The trumpeting roar of the creature was the last sound it made before that of its body on the ground. It was a slow fall but the thud was still shaking of the earth underfoot. Blood spread quietly, leaking from the stabbed wounds, and the forest went silent in the monster's death. Not even the wind moved for several seconds as if to mourn the loss and then all was right with the world again.

Thor hurried up toward Katherine, smile on his face, hand reaching out to his right where Mjolnir zoomed with a whir. His left hand then reached out, less Sif or Loki get to her first. "Not bad," her uncle offered with a nod. "But needs work." He grinned further.

Loki was immeasurably pleased to provide his girl with the distraction the beast needed so that she could make her deadly move. His Frost Giant blood in her veins could prove quite fruitful, he considered as the beast stumbled. The potential energy in her from his darker lineage may indeed provide him with the right way to teach her how to use the darkest of arts.

Trudging up to where Katherine was, he smiled pridefully, "Your uncle is correct, little one, you did rather well but perhaps you need more training. One can't always depend upon their fathers providing distraction to slay the beast at an opportune moment.." he gave Thor a friendly slap on the shoulder.
