Who: Wanda Maximoff (and open)
Where: The City
What: A young woman touches down in the land of Oz
When: Monday, dawn
Rating: Low
Open: Yes
Status: Ongoing

Her toes curled against rough asphalt, the uncomfortable texture painful against bare skin. She hadn't had to walk barefoot in years and Wanda had forgotten how it felt. The callouses had long since been taken care of, memories of a harder life scraped away. It was cold. The wind caught her hair, spinning it out of control as it whipped around her, accusing this young curiosity and investigating a total stranger. The nightgown she wore was no refuge outside and, try as she might, Wanda could not crawl inside the thin silk and escape the strange air and find herself back in New York, back to the small apartment that she had only barely begun to call her home. Uprooted from her home, Wanda had finally begun to settle. Now the wind had blown her like a fragile seed to put down roots in newer soil still. Was this a dream?

It was not bravery but necessity that drew her eyes up. She saw a city, too strange to be real, and beyond it a verdant greenery that led to beaches and water beyond. Wanda turned, fluttering gaze spinning in circumference of her fear to see just what kind of world this was. A spire stretched toward the heavens. The Tower of Babel, it called to mind, not so unlike the Avengers Tower. Would she run toward it, or away? Neither. Wanda froze, unable to make a decision, unable to think or even process what was going on.

Her hands were clutching something, knuckles gone white from the seaside weather and her grip. A red leather jacket. She had been hanging it up, yes? Hanging it up for the night at home. Home, in New York. New York, with the Avengers. The Avengers, without...

She took in a breath, the air fracturing as her vocal folds fluctuated to create an involuntary whimper. Wanda hugged the jacket against her chest, the good sense to slip it around her nearly naked shoulders failing to register as she clung to the sole vestige of anything familiar. What was this place?

The strange thing about Discord was that nothing seemed strange to him. If he was awake at 5am and went for a walk that was just how it was. He saw plenty of others on their morning jogs or meditation, though he didn't bother anyone. Leave them. Something else was calling to him this morning. What it was he didn't know but he felt the need to snake along and meander through the streets in his mismatched sneakers. Clothes didn't just appear haphazardly, sadly, so he was dressed well in whatever he had found.

A purple button-up shirt, navy blue trousers, a black sock and a red sock.

Seeing a girl shrugging in the distance he moved closer and in his wake followed a path of...well, it was flat to the ground like ice but had a white and red stripe to it like a candy cane. I wonder if one licked it if it would taste like peppermint! Probably.

"Well! Good morning!" he called from behind the girl, bowing down to meet her height from his tall one. The man had salt n' pepper greying hair and a beard but looked friendly as could be with the smile he gave Wanda, hands folded behind his back. In his mind's eye he could feel the way he would have spiraled down had he still been a draconequus, but as a human he simply bowed at the hip. How boring.

She heard the crunch of something against the ground, a dull flap in follow-up. Heel, toe, heel, toe. Heavy. Wanda's eyes startled from her daze as a lifetime of living as a vagabond and, recently, a superhero pulled her attention up and forward. They were wide with fear, anxiety gripping every muscle tensely. One hand pressed forward in protection, a misty scarlet beginning to dance through her fingers as her eyes flashed a mirroring hue. Wanda stepped back, instinct, and the intense distress caused her abilities to lash out as any loose dust and pebbles scattered away from her feet.

"What...is this place?" She asked, voice thick with her Sokovian accent. Wanda made no effort to steel her voice, the tremble in her timbre all-too apparent. No, attempts at bravado were not her particular forte. Reason and Steve's training would tell her not to show fear, not when facing the gaping maw of a wolf and not when facing the smile of a gentlemen. You could never be sure which one you were looking at.

The man's bi-colored eyes looked down at the ground and her hands, then back up to her red gaze with his own blue-and-green one. He stood back and held up his hands loosely to show he held no ill intent and gave another smile. "My dear," he crooned at her before putting his hands down at his sides. Discord shifted on his feet to find a comfortable place at her side with a proper amount of space.

"You have come to a long lost island!" he said brightly. "The people here seem to come from all over with no rhyme or reason, just appear, but it's a most fortuitous place. I quite like it."

The elder of the pair then stepped back and bowed deeply with a grand gesture. "I...am Discord. It's a pleasure to meet you, my dear."

She did not lower her guard so easily, the hex primed and curling around her outstretched fingers like a serpent made of bleeding ether. Her knees bent slightly, prepped to pounce or flee as the situation demanded, though it all looked rather ridiculous considering that she was wearing a light blue nighty.

"An island?" She asked, voice incredulous despite the fact that it was very clear that was, indeed, an island. "And what brought me here? Was it you, with a name such as that it seems fitting."

His niceties did not do much to set her at ease. It was apparent that she was a suspicious girl, though who could blame her as they stood upon a road taken straight out of Candyland?

As Discord stood to his normal height he gave a great pout and shook his head. "Alas, it was not I who brought you here!" he said looking very blue about it all. "We do not know who or what brings us here, only that we are." He turned and took a few steps away to give her more space, watching that poise. Oh, how fun.

How fantastic.

How interesting!

"It's very hard for newcomers to take in, I have heard. I am relatively new, myself! I'm enjoying it, just the same. It is a perpetual vacation." He paused and sighed, considering information he needed to tell her to sell her on the locale. He was suddenly a Real Estate man, dressed up in a mismatched suit that appeared on his body with an audible pop.

"Everything is free, there is no currency or money to exchange! Everyone works and trades whatever they like. Well, I don't. I don't need anything they offer! There's an apple orchard, beach, spa, greenhouse, castle, hospital, laboratories, playgrounds, a church and a park, pools--no longer filled with pudding, I'm sorry--aaaand....peace!" Arms appeared out of nowhere and pointed this way and that way and all of the ways as he listed off the various things on the island.

"But don't....touch that," the arms then disappeared as he turned and point at The Spire. "That's bad business even for me."

Wanda was considering his words, the wheels behind her eyes visibly turning when the pop of his transformation startled her once again. Another step back straightened her stature, the hex dissolving into nothing as both hands gripped the jacket against her.

"Nothing is free," the witch bit back, defiant to his immensely unsettling joie de vivre, "nothing. Even if I have died and gone to heaven, we are but mice spinning in wheels for the amusement of the God who built this lovely cage."

Her brow furrowed as she stared once more into the spire, stretching impossibly high and continuing onward. "What is the tower?"

"Normally, that is true," replied Discord when he was all back to normal, no extra arms with extra coat or shirt sleeves. Just a normal, boring man in horribly unmatched clothes. He stood still, harmless as ever, though Discord was not of the magic users that needed to move at all to cast. It simply happened. Ta da.

"However, this island is free. They will not ask you for money, if that is your concern. If you have nothing to trade they will simply give you what you need. Very generous. Oh! Yes, she's here, too." He said on a small tangent.

"The tower is...well, I am not quite sure. I have gathered that it is the source of all of the cra~azy pa~arties that happen here. You might wake up to find yourself a man, or have wings, or be a fish. I swear, not my doing, I only wish to have thought of it first."

"Normally," Wanda repeated, eyebrows drawn forward in frustrated thought as she continued to stare at the spire, "but there is no normal here and that is why you like it."

Brushing against the man's mind almost made her cross-eyed, the neurons in his brain fired in such random ways that it was difficult to keep up. He seemed to be telling the truth, though, whatever that meant. Wanda could not say that was exactly a comfort.

"So, people are brought here, ripped from their lives and they just...stay? There is no leaving?" Finally, she had relaxed enough to realize, as a shiver rippled through her body, that she was holding a jacket. Wanda slipped her arms through it, the red leather clashing ostensibly with the blue nighty. "I can't stay here. There are people who need me. The Avengers, I-- I have to get back."

Of course, but Discord was no normal man, either. "Precisely," he agreed with the young woman upon all observations, nodding. Even then as he turned and stood in such a way that he was at her side, hands in his pockets, his mind was a scramble. Maybe like eggs being beaten in a bowl.

"No leaving. Well, that is a lie. You may leave when a door to another realm opens but you may not stay on the other side of the door," he explained while holding out a hand. Upon his hand appeared a fuzzy robe of baby pink and in the other as he reached out...long eared bunny slippers. Also pink.

"You cannot get back, I'm afraid, though these Avengers...Some are here!"

The pink robe was another surprise and Wanda was not sure if it was intended for her or for him since she could, at this point, see either as a perfectly reasonable possibility. In either case, she did not take it.

What he said struck her, hand lifting to touch her chin in thought as more ideas churned inside her brain. Was this something to do with the bigger picture, with whatever vision Thor had seen before he released, well, Vision. If the other Avengers were here, this couldn't be an accident. It had to be for a reason. There had to be some reason that she was here, some purpose that she could pour everything into to help her get by. To distract her from the fact that she still felt so hollow inside.

"They're here. Yes, yes, of course. Can you take me to them, Mister...Discord?"
