Jake had gone out early in the morning, heading for somewhere pretty far from people, but with plenty of cleared space around him. He'd even travelled as a cat, just in case he met anyone out for an early-morning run. He'd seen his younger self doing just that, but didn't go near him, and he even picked up on Taronyu's scent at one point. He kept going, though, and soon found himself somewhere suitable. He turned human-shaped again, and looked round at all the trees surrounding him before sticking two fingers in his mouth and whistling as loudly and shrilly as he could. Hopefully, Banshee would be close enough to hear. He hadn't felt his ikran's presence in his head since he'd switched with Mitchell, which kind of made sense since technically, Jake was dead so the bond couldn't exist any more. He just hoped it would still be there when he switched back.
Banshee appeared a few minutes later, landing as close to Jake as he could, no doubt wondering why he was in the wrong body. Within seconds, he was over nudging at Jake and crooning softly at him. When the sun rose, he must have noticed how Jake tried to hide from it, and moved to block the sunlight.
"Irayo, ma Banshee," Jake said quietly, before moving back enough to take one last look at his ikran, just confirming details in his mind. This switch would be far easier than turning into a cat because Jake knew how Banshee thought. He knew how ikran moved and flew, how they breathed and hunted, everything. He kept no secrets from his ikran, and Banshee returned the favor; when they shared tsaheylu, they were as one and so this shift was almost effortless.
He ducked his head as the pain hit, and then blinked his four new eyes. It was strange to see things from an ikran's perspective without his own Na'vi perspective overlain on top of it, but it didn't take long to adjust at all. He stayed still after that and let Banshee investigate. He must have had the same scent, since the ikran didn't attack, although there was a bit of posturing at first. Jake just bared his teeth and hissed at Banshee who soon calmed down and then did something which surprised Jake completely.
The ikran turned his head and showed Jake his antennae, lifting it as best he could given the harness he wore. Jake took the hint and formed tsaheylu again. Banshee was happy that Jake could hear him again, and Jake was so damn relieved that the bond was still there that he nearly lost the change.
Banshee had only one request. That they both get in the air as quickly as possible and fly together, and Jake saw no reason to refuse it. All he asked was that they go find Neytiri first. Banshee screeched his agreement, and then they broke tsaheylu. Banshee took off first, quickly followed by Jake, and they circled the clearing a couple times so that Jake could get used to flying for himself before heading off in search of Neytiri.
