When she started to sing his sobbing subsided, easing into just subtle shuddered breaths. Halfway through he eased his head up, just a little, not enough to dislodge her hold on him. He needed that hold. Needed to feel her so close.
When she was done, he turned his face just enough to kiss her arm. He opened his mouth to say something, but instead of what he had been about to say a song tumbled out. It was harsh because his throat was still thick with tears, jagged because his voice hurt him to use, almost. But none of that mattered, as it came out anyway.
